My criteria for a carrier was the ability to hold 2 totes. I had Greenmade totes common to Costco, so that set the minimum size. This is too small, but is $30 cheaper than I paid for mine.

The Harbor Freight version is almost exactly the same for $60.

We own it and it's been on multiple road trips with no issues carrying a heavy amount.

So just FYI, you're not likely to have a 500 pound limit. For example, on my '23 Rogue w/ a 2" hitch, you really safely only have about 150lbs tongue weight to work with.

This is a steel unit, which means that 40lbs of that weight is gone. Even if you're careful, often in shipping there will be one or two dings where the paint will be chipped off, and since its steel it will eventually rust there. If you're going to use it much, get an aluminum one as it'll save you 10lbs+ and won't ever rust.

Harbor freight has the haul master aluminum one about this width but much deeper for $120 as everyday regular price and 9lbs lighter despite the extra size.

Lastly, check your exhaust. Mine is luckily pointed down at the ground and tucked under the bumper, which is great for carrier use. But some vehicles like a Mazda CX3 the exhaust points straight back and that's far too much heat on the carrier.

Edit: To be fair though, if the accessories are good quality, this does also come with the bag, net, and straps which has some value.

If i did it again, I would go with an aluminum one. I even put a coat of Rust-Oleum on it before i used it and it still rusted.

Make sure you understand the tongue weight limits of your vehicle when you're buying one of these things.

My criteria was even worse, so I had my buddy build me one. I wanted one that would hold 3 coolers long way front to back and to also not have to worry about a weight rating. The thing weighs 110 lbs, I'm such a dummy. However it works, fits the 3 coolers, can probably handle well over 1k lbs, and will last forever. Added plus is since it's built with a 2.5" bar none of my friends can borrow and not return it since it won't fit in any of their receivers.

Don't tighten the screws too much. That really instills a lot of confidence. Smilie

I didn't look at harbor freight when I was searching for one that lifts up. Does there's while comes with net, ratchet straps, and a bag?
