You pretty much have to stay a week since there's only one flight from HNL to RAR and back each week.
Most of the tourists there are from Australia or New Zealand.

I checked fare rules on our agency's Amadeus GDS -- allows up to 6 free stopovers -- including Honolulu and neighbor islands, routing-dependant. For instance, from LAX, can stop HNL as well as Big Island and Kauai. From San Diego, HNL + Maui, for as long as you wish, up to fare date boundaries.
Flight timing is attractive -- especially for those who hate red-eye flights. West coast to HNL is 6 hours, morning departure. HNL to Raratonga is 6 hours in the afternoon/evening. Rarotonga to HNL is afternoon, and HNL to West coast can be morning, afternoon, or overnight, depending upon length of stopover.
Normally, a 12-hour trip is brutal, but it is really two 6-hour trips, which combined with free stopovers can negate a lot of travel fatigue. This is a fabulous deal.
My wife and I visited in 2003, and we are ready to return!
