For example, if you want to change your phone number and the website does not give you the number or area code you want, a customer service representative may not be able to manually select or assign a different number for you. Instead, you may be told to wait until the system allows another change and then try again online.
That is one of the trade-offs for the lower price. Compared with traditional AT&T wireless plans, you may receive fewer customer-service options and less manual account support. For routine use, this may not matter at all. If your service is working normally and you are comfortable managing the account online, the plan can provide good value.
The potential problem comes when something unusual happens—such as an activation issue, an incorrect phone number, an account configuration problem, or another situation that cannot be fixed through the website. In those cases, customer service may be able to explain the problem but may not have the tools or authority to correct it immediately.
In other words, the lower price comes partly from relying much more heavily on automation and customer self-service. It can be a good choice for customers who are comfortable handling their own account online, but it may be less suitable for someone who wants the ability to call AT&T and have a representative manually resolve unusual account problems.
Update Per Gemini:
AT&T does not offer a truly independent, standalone cellular plan for a smartwatch where the watch operates completely detached from a primary smartphone account. Instead, AT&T requires a primary postpaid smartphone plan to add a dedicated wearable line (costing about $10.99/month) which uses NumberSync to mirror your main phone number. [1, 2]
How AT&T Smartwatch Lines Work
Companion Line: The watch receives its own internal eSIM and distinct numbering for network routing, but it shares your primary phone number via AT&T NumberSync so people call and text your main number. [1]
