This is regular price. The product just goes OOS occasionally since you can only have so many refurbs

The phone is pathetically slow even with all junk removed. The reason is simple - 4gb RAM is not enough for an Android in 2026.

4gm ram is miserable. a moto power 2024 with 1500/1500/1.5 same price is much faster due to 8gb ram

This renewed Galaxy A16 5G bundle stands out as a cheap way to get a year of Tracfone service and a basic Samsung phone for light use or emergency backup. The long security support through October 2030 is a real plus, and the phone can feel faster if Samsung RAM Plus is turned off and the device is restarted. The main drawback is performance, since the 4GB RAM and modest processor are repeatedly described as very slow. The renewed unit also arrives in a plain white box, and Tracfone service may require periodic activity to keep the line active.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can feel very slow for everyday use, with app launches taking around 20 seconds and some users calling it borderline unusable. Turning off Samsung's RAM Plus and restarting may help a little, but it does not reliably fix the underlying 4GB RAM and weaker CPU limitations.

    avalon1453191819231991Sarisin48Sarisin48

  • The line may need periodic activity to avoid cancellation, with reports ranging from weekly to about every 60 days. A practical workaround is to make a call, send a text, or use cellular data regularly instead of relying only on Wi‑Fi.

    johnnybladesSarisin48Sarisin48

  • Not always; some purchases did not include the advertised allowance and required entering a plan PIN or buying a plan during activation. The service is also tied to the phone's IMEI, so activation may require moving the line to a preferred phone or BYOP SIM.

    TodayOnlyoregon14

  • No, it arrives as a renewed item in a generic white box with no seal or cellophane to break. That packaging is consistent with a refurbished unit rather than a retail-new phone.

    LEOMHK1.0

  • Yes. The display reportedly has PWM flickering that can become uncomfortable for people with sensitive eyes.

Good deal for a disposable #.Current Chevron New Rewards members get $1 off per gallon 5X @ 25 gals.https://www.chevrontexacorewards.com/?tags=on,onif you are lucky and can find a place that doesnt price gouge.locally they are 35cents -$1.20 more than BJ's Costco. There are other offers as well that could piggyback(and require a real #).
Does anyone have any tips for where to park an extra phone # cheaply for future use?

It's not only the RAM that makes this slow. The A16's CPU is less powerful than that of a decade old iPhone 8. I bought this as a sidegrade for my mom who used a Galaxy A32 (which was "free" in 2021) previously, but it might actually be a slight downgrade in performance (much better screen and security updates, though).

Security updates is an issue on its own. Samsung is know for slowing down older gen phones to push newer models. They were caught on and admitted it (same as Apple). I remember specifically how my ones flagship Galaxy S8 became junk after multiple updates.

How do they get away with this is the real question here.

This is a great deal for people who are smart enough not to let a cellphone control every aspect of their lives. I bought two of these renewed phones earlier this year, for a little more, and have had zero issues with them.

When they don't provide a link, they are just lying. It's strange, I've been on this site nearly twenty years, and there have always been these people. I just looked on Amazon and it's $90

i got a couple of these earlier this year at this same price. i just leave them in the kids gloveboxes for emergencies. They work fine for that, but they would be a bit annoying as a full time phone.

and yes, not available at this time.

Every year I get a 'new' phone from Tracfon, QVC, etc with the minutes, etc added to my balances. I have done these the past 7-8 years. I honestly have to say getting this phone this year I got the worst phone yet. It is borderline unusable. So slow I just spend time waiting for the next screen after pushing any button. The Moto I had last year would run circles around this one. Alright this is my second phone, and it was only $40 for the phone and another year to maintain the balances, but I try to avoid using it as much as possible - so much so that I received a warning from Tracfone to use it more or I would lose my number.
