Use non-ethanol fuel, when possible, and stabilizer
Run dry before storage and do maintenance runs every quarter
Besides a can of your favorite engine starter (they are all mostly ether based with some cheaper combustibles thrown in) go on Amazon and order a spare carburetor. They're cheap. Keep that on hand as a last resort, and with all of that you should be fine.
Last thing you want to do during an emergency is screw around with a generator that won't start.
