RecommendationStick with Finish Quantum at sale prices (around 15¢–17¢ per pod) for everyday kitchen loads, as it delivers excellent performance for standard plates and glasses. Upgrade to Finish Ultimate if you frequently skip pre-rinsing heavy cookware or want the absolute maximum shine for fine glassware.
If you pre-rinse your dishes in hot water, do not use and Cascade with Dawn or you may end up with sudsing in your dishwasher. It also has a much stronger scent that tends to cling to plastic items.
Dishwashers and their detergents are purported to work best and most efficiently when large food items are scraped off and not pre-rinsed. Use the "auto" setting and the dishwasher is supposed to determine the time and heat needed to clean the dishes.
I haven't found that to be the case even in a high-end Bosch dishwasher, so we pre-rinse and use Finish Quantum. We use the short/eco cycle which takes only one hour as opposed to the four hours of the auto cycle. Everything comes out clean.
