I've bought various brands, the foam works fine, but the firmness/height varies a lot once expanded between brands. No weird smells from my experience
for me specifically, they've all been slightly thinner than what I prefer. I sacrificed one pillow and transferred some foam into 2 or 3 other pillows to get my preferred height. no problems after that

WTF!
SD's could have a better client.
The "cold" side is made with thermally conductive material that absorbs your body heat, cooling you down.
Works under the same principle as how touching room temperature metal feels colder than room temperature plastic or wood.
It absorbs your body heat and uses the rest of the pillow like a heat-sink or radiator to disperse that heat away from you.
