I am not sure why. I believe their may be very solid plans to revive Energy and releasing these may be part of regaining Brand awareness. It may have been part of the deal with NEAD. JAMO is also part of the deal and will be releasing a number of new models with the intent to revive the brand as a HiFi brand and not Ikea esque.
All Energy RC-XX speakers were made in China. The were never manufactured in Canada.
The speaker line was announced in 2005 and rolled out in late 2005 and 2006.
Klipsch bought Energy in 2006.
These were basically manufactured while in Klipsch control for most of the speakers run.
There is no 'newer Klipsch' version, that said the original Energy company performed quality control on the product line in Canada before passing the speakers on to vendors.
I would suspect quality control went down when that stopped and all QC was done in China back in 2007.
Now it is likely back up as manufacturing costs are so low and the ability to produce high quality products at scale so commonplace it just comes with the territory.
I wouldn't worry and Klipsch does not own the brand anymore but they may be manufacturing them for NEAD right now.

I can not say I really needed the extra set, but will be fun to compare.

It looks like the Energy set also requires a receiver and a subwoofer, so that's another $500 or so. If the total cost is still going to be over $1,000 after adding those components, would this still be considered a better deal than the Sonos set, which was around $2,000 new?
So it's an apples n oranges comparison.
Keep in mind proper set up & calibration is crucial/required to take advantage of traditional speaker setups.
Don't forget about content, traditional won't fix the lack of quality from streaming.

I recently sent two pair of RC-10 bookshelf speakers to my nephew which he really loves.
If they are really bringing them back that would be great but most people have moved on to soundbars so I wonder how much they'll sell?

Sound bars are quite popular but the HiFi scene has huge profit margins if you can get customers. It barely costs the larger manufactures anything to make passive speakers no matter what the design these days. Even shipping is not really an issue anymore. We are talking $2500 speakers that costs a large company $250-300 to make and land on any major markets shore. Of course marketing and other costs will add to the expenses.

If you know what you're looking for you can get a used AVR for cheap off Craigslist, FB Marketplace or a thrift store.
I got this Marantz receiver from a thrift store for $40. Have it as my bedroom setup with Energy Veritas bookshelf speakers, center channel and Energy RC Mini surrounds.
