I have owned Klipsch speakers since their Quintet system and have never thought twice about switching brands. Of course audiophile are gonna trash something that is affordable. It's the same thing with coffee "connoisseurs". I have a full surround system with RF82ii fronts and their center channel. It's a hard brand to beat for the price. I have never had a problem with their "ear-piercing" highs. I will add that I use my system 75% for movies.

I agree that they are 2 different approaches, but they CAN mesh. - imo the Energy RC-70, RC-LCR, RC-10 deal for the same money is the play - it's relatively flat, you just need to add a sub and you've got yourself an excellent 5.1 home theater that is also nice and flat and well composed for music. I received my energy set last week and i'm still experimenting with it, will be buying a subwoofer soon, but for both music and movies i've been impressed so far. note: you WILL have to calibrate and dial-in your setup to actually make it sound good. you can't just plunk down your new expensive speakers, plug them into an avr and expect them to sound good. - stuff like dirac can get you most of the way there for integration if you have it available, but it still takes some time to get right. if you don't mind a little more investment and some learning, I strongly recommend picking up a calibrated measurement microphone for around $100 on amazon like a umik-1, plug it into a computer and download REW (Room EQ Wizard) which is an open source measurement suite and check out youtube for how to use it to get your system dialed in with your receiver. REW is fantastic for doing before and after and really getting things dialed in. this is the process i'm in currently.

The name branding is great and these are a step up from super basic living room setups, however, if you want better quality for the buck, get the RP line (Reference Primier) instead of this R line. But if all you have is $800, then get this.

Great response here. I have the RP8000ii (matched with sub and surrounds) in my main room which we use for HT. Great speakers for clear dialog and crisp delivery for movies. Not ideal for all music though. The highs can be fatiguing when pushed. For movies though, great setup! For casual music at medium volume, also a good secondary use for them.

I have Dirac which makes a huge difference with Klipsch. The Onkyo RZ series even has built in Klipsch settings which helps as well.

In that case you will definitely want to go listen to speakers, that's much more critical listening.

I would suggest sticking to towers, quality ones offer quality bass for most content ime.
One benefit, it saves you from possibly needing/getting a sub.
Not to mention proper integration can be tricky.
Done inappropriately, it can dominate the content.

It does matter what content you end up playing thru them.

Some music that is heavily processed is going to suffer. But things that are live recordings and such are incredibly detailed. Basically, they are ruthless to bad recordings.

but the last of this line i listened to was a version over 10 years ago. maybe they cheaped out on parts.

Same, except for the Klipsch powered sub. They seem incapable of making a sub amp that lasts, and I have FOUR sitting on the shelf that failed shortly after the warranty expired. The drivers are fine, but the amps are a known point of failure.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. Klipsch horn tweeters are known to be pretty harsh. It's nothing new. Some might like that but it's not for everyone.

Yea, I have their Promedia pc speakers and the amp gave out after about 1 1/2 year. I just bought a small external amp and they almost sound better than before!

Lol, I hadn't noticed. These are people shopping for HiFi gear on a "deals" site. And since Klipsch is so cheap and SD's Adorama guy constantly posts them, a lot of these guys own 'em and I guess they assume I was just picking on Klipsch. When I was actually just being honest, lol.

Klipsch has a sound that doesn't sell at regular price. That's why you can get a 7.2 system for $399. 🤷
