If you could modify the gears and torque coupling then this would be a good deal
Also if you can use a screwdriver and understand electricity you can also just get a spot welder and fix the cells as they go bad for a few $ per cell (or in most towns use a local service to replace them as a lot of stuff still uses 18650 lithium-ion cells.)
