The XPS 13 9345 stands out as a compact, premium ARM laptop with excellent battery life, strong thermals, and quiet operation when the needed apps have native Snapdragon support. The 13.4 inch 2K 120 hertz display and light travel friendly design fit school, media, and web based work well, and the keyboard and build feel divisive but premium. The main caution is compatibility, since x86 only software, obscure school apps, games with anti cheat, and some emulated tools can be a poor fit. Battery health management is another concern because charge limit controls are reportedly missing on ARM variants, making it a better match for known workloads.

it is pathetic that major brands would even install snapdragon knowing these limitations. we are buying a computer, not a toy smartphone
Buy the right tool for your job. You seem very uninformed and have seemingly done little to zero current research. My iPhone has lots of restrictions on what I can do with it in my field of work...does that make the iPhone a "toy smartphone"?

Is this kind of a high price for a 1st gen X snapdragon processor? The X2 that's currently out now is significantly better. If you're OK with ARM windows machine, seems like other X2 laptops are better value.

Yoga Slim 7x (with X2 but 16GB ram) is $900 straight from Lenovo. I'd trade the $100 savings and half ram for much better processor.
It is high, but that's Dell. That's how they've made their record profits lately, by no longer being a value brand and instead an Apple wanna be.

I have seen reports that this laptop has a problem of not being able to limit the charging to a preset percentage and stop charging at that percentage set by the user for battery health preservation, and that may cause premature battery degradation. Here is one recent user report:

Can anyone who has this laptop and used it for sometime talk about this issue and help me understand whether it is really a problem or there has been any update that has fixed it?

If I'm still running into compatibility issues with certain applications on AMD processors, I'd expect even more trouble on ARM. The compatibility between ARM and x86 is what's holding me back right now. You may encounter additional issues with school applications designed for Windows, since they're typically built exclusively for x86 processors.
I went to college decades ago and yes some very important physics math apps were windows only. Shift is much towards apple and chromebook friendly but I agree if going all in on this much money I'd intel or amd cpu. These ARM cpu's have come so far they are good chromebook options.

The situtation has been improved a lot and for most general purpose workloads, it works perfectly. And, duing the release of the 2nd Gen Snapdragon X2 Series, Qualcomm and Nvidia worked a lot to improve the performance of the Prism Translation layer which is not just valod for X2 series, X1 series gets the exact same compatibility and performance upgrade while running x86 or x64 apps through translation layer.
The problem with school use you won't know a professor or class requires use of an obscure app until you are in that class. I wouldn't say no snapdragon but I wouldn't put all my eggs into that one basket with no option like a home desktop with x86 in case. If a person wasn't in college it's less risky but people still have favorite apps that might not run and those people are the least likely to research if they work.

This is NOT the newest snapdragon processor...correct?
Ding, ding, ding... Correct! This is a 2 year old processor. The second gen is a big improvement in performance over the first gen.

Yeah, I am waiting for NVIDIA's variant. Otherwise, i will go with X2 Elite Extreme (Asus Zenbook A16) with 48GB RAM.
They're about to hit the shelves... Won't be cheap. Think Nvidia might be too late, and so I hope. Their USP is running local AI and thankfully LLM have come a long way since they announced their own PC's. Nvidia does own the moat anymore (inference) - just about any strong modern SoC will perform good enough at worst. RAM however is still king, not Mr Green.

Correct, the ARM variants do not expose the settings in the BIOS to set charge limit. I'd avoid if you want to own a laptop for long term and you'd like to set max charge to 80%.
