I do appreciate a fresh ground cup of jo, but when you accept a 2nd cup from your friend and then watch 3 minutes of grinding you start to feel bad.
Point is, that for coffee nerds like me and your friend the grinding is kind of ... Zen. And enjoyable in its own right. FWIW...
I'll be honest though, lately I've been creatively lazy and attach my power drill to the top and let it do the cranking. I got this idea from a high end coffee shop that I saw do the same.
Anyway, I too have a cheapo we've been using for a while, and expressly for when we want something different, or Mrs. Gryhnd wants her own type etc. Downside is the manual burr grinders are all slow in my experience. So if you have tennis elbow, consider the irritation, lol

Serious question, but how long does it take to hand grind enough for a full 12cup pot? I am not that big of a coffee nerd and I like my conical burr grinder but my best guess answer to that question is definitely a blocker for me (and it may not even be relevant for a lot of coffee nerds but I just like the convenience of drip and to get things moving in the morning because I hate the mornings haha)
