This isnt as effecient as the newer chip, but the i9 has the ability to run DDR4, which in this market is much much cheaper.
All things considered, it might be worth it to eat the cost on DDR5 and plan on using it for your next system.
If prices on RAM get worse in 2027, you'll be kicking yourself for not pulling the trigger sooner (128GB of DDR5 in mid-2025 was around $500 and it's now around $1700, just to make it sting for everyone).
But let's say prices do come down. Now, you're stuck on a platform with no DDR5 and limited PCIe 5.0 support.

12th gen has the ability to run both DDR4/5 so if prices do come down, buy another motherboard to use ddr5. (I have a 12700k with 64gb DDR5)
I have an i9-10850K with 64GB DDR4. I am tempted to upgrade to this or a 14th gen and keep the 64GB, but the efficiency of these chips is absurd compared to the newer generation. I wish there were a 64GB DDR5 bundle at Microcenter. I can't go back to less than 64GB ram in my system, and the prices of 64GB DDR5 kits are insane.

I have multiple browsers open and a bunch of background processes at any given time. Other things I use that require this much RAM include LLMs and virtual machines.

Ok got it. Yeah those LLMs and VMs can definitely hog up the RAM. I'd suggest picking up two of the bundles from microcenter and then sell of the CPU and motherboard on one of the bundles to get your 64gb and somewhat reasonable price point then sell off your existing setup to recoup additional costs.
