Tello's promo stands out as a low-cost second line with unlimited talk and text, 50GB of high-speed data, hotspot use, and access to 5G SA. The newer rollover feature is a big upgrade, with unused high-speed data rolling forward up to 100GB total when it applies. Physical SIMs can wait up to 30 days to activate, while eSIM service starts immediately. The main catches are the short three month promo window, possible extra fees, and rollover not carrying over if the plan is changed to a fixed data tier.

  • Roll-over data can carry unused high-speed data up to the full 50GB into the next month.

  • The plan can support hotspot use for multiple devices, which helps when Wi-Fi is limited.

  • Tello can work well for an LTE watch setup, including calling the watch number when the paired phone is dead.

  • Porting out can be handled after the first month with an automated process and short-lived port-out credentials.

  • eSIM billing can start immediately even if the eSIM is not installed, which can shorten the effective promo window.

  • Auto roll-over may not apply to the fixed 10GB hotspot plan, which can reduce flexibility for light users.

  • Switching from the unlimited high-speed option to a fixed data plan in month two can stop roll-over for remaining data.

  • An additional fee may apply, which can make the effective monthly cost higher than the advertised $15 rate.

I use two esim, one esim is unlimited call and txt for $30 a year, find this on ebay. My 2nd esim is 3GB data only for $5 a month. Way cheaper.
Interesting. Would that $30 be the $30 "$2.50/Mo RedPocket Prepaid Wireless Phone Plan+Kit: UNLIMITED Talk /Text + 200MB" on ebay?

It seems with Tello prices you also have to add almost $5 in taxes and fees... maybe you don't have to add that much in taxes and fees the way do it?

No, unfortunately, the unlimited data will not roll over if you switch to a fixed amount of data in the second month. But yes, worth starting with unlimited for the free SIM, then in month 2, use your Tello dollars from a referral to get the $10/2GB plan for free. If you don't use the full 2GB, you can roll over whatever is left with a manual renewal for the third month. And you could downgrade even further to 2GB/no minutes for $6 if you really don't need any ability to call. Or if you want to build a pot of data, do a larger plan in month 3.

Edit: tried to message you, but get this: haydeecm has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.
Thinking then on joining on 2GB data only plan if I wont get to rollover the data. Do you know if you can use the 10$ credit if your plan is less than 10$? Is there any advantage to joining a 300 min plan vs going paygo? I rarely use voice, so thought I could nurse a paygo balance for years.can i join now without paygo and then add paygo balance later?

BTW Thanks for letting me know about the message quota, fixed it. worship

I see something about cancelling early. Do you risk losing your phone number if you try to port back out on the last month? I only ask because Mint's new customer deal for unlimited is the best deal out there but after that first year, you have to leave for at least 60 days to be considered a new customer again to get the 12 month unlimited plan for $180.

enter that question in google ;-)
google told me mint is only about $2 and one time purchase, and the real value is growing it instead of buying it monthly

Tello is a great carrier. I used it for 3 months when they had promo $10 for 3 months ($30 in total). I had access to 5G SA. Then I ported out to Infimobile. Infimobile doesnt have 5G SA access. But for a 2nd device its not that bad.

So there is no requirement that you must renew after 3 months? You can cancel and just port out, no penalty? Do they alive you a hard time with the port out pin?

No requirement beyond the 30 days you have paid for when signing up. You can port out after the first month if you want. It's been some time since I ported a line out, but it was fully automated. You just had to click some boxes, give the security PIN (that you get at account creation) and the website gives the port-out account number and PIN. It's only valid for a short time though, so wait until you are ready to port out before going through the steps.

Their website says auto roll-over only applies to the unlimited plan. That's a bummer!!!
