This is a lightweight hi vis hydration vest aimed at hot weather walks, yardwork, and other short outings where carrying water and a little cooling matters. The 2 liter bladder and front pockets make it useful for hydration and small items, and the bright color suits event support or cycling around town. Cooling sounds modest and short lived, around 1 to 2 hours, and the included ice packs are very small and thin. Fit, breathability, and the lack of front mesh matter, especially in humid heat or for riding.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, the hi-vis version can work well for event support, volunteering, school-bus duty, or yardwork in extreme heat. It can carry hydration plus items like a walkie or medical supplies, and the cooling can be useful for about 90 minutes in very hot conditions.

  • The cooling effect is mild and typically lasts under 1-2 hours. It is better suited to short walks, short hikes, yardwork, or other brief hot-weather use than all-day cooling.

  • The cooling packs are very small and thin, and they add weight that could otherwise be water. They can help for brief heat relief, but they are not a substitute for carrying more water on longer hikes.

  • It is made more for running than for riding a motorcycle or bike because it lacks front mesh to catch airflow. In hot, humid conditions, sweat can still collect and drip off instead of evaporating well.

  • The included bladder may be the weak point; a Hydrapak replacement is recommended for better durability and easier drying. Hydrapak bladders are reversible so they dry between uses, and they can be replaced if they leak after about 2 years of heavy use.

If you get one of these spend $40 on a usable, durable, driable bladder from Hydrapak. They're reversible so the thing actually dries between uses. They also replace when it springs a leak, which happens after maybe 2 years of continual use. Yours truly, A Very Sweaty Runner

I switched to Solomon Advanced Skin 12 this summer. I was using the REI branded one for the past 3 years. The difference is night and day. Solomon is worth every penny. Don't cheap out on a hydration vest.
Agreed, love my Adv Skin 5 and will never use another (it has less heat than the 12 but also less storage capacity).

Buy it if you're okay with mild, short‑lasting cooling (under 1–2 hours), you fit the size well, and you mainly need a lightweight hydration pack for casual walks or short hikes.Skip it if you need all‑day cooling, have a larger torso, or expect premium build quality – several reviewers were disappointed.

As someone who hikes in the woods nearly every single day, can't say I'm interested. I'd take extra water before those cooling packs. Unnecessary weight taking the place of something more valuable. IMO, this is only for working outside on your lawn, or very similar..... in which you really don't need the water carrying ability. My 2 cents.
