Top Comments
- no movement around under arms (those straps are terrible weight balance/stability)
- no chaffing (especially around neckline on cheap vests)
- breathability (some sort of mesh material)
- front pockets for water / fuel.
Heat will always suck and as disgusting as it sounds, most vests actually get better when they are soaked in your own sweat thanks for evaporative cooling. Just pour ice down the back pouch if you're really hot or freeze half of the bladder the night before.
It usually comes down to - just buy Solomon Advanced Skin (5 or 12) and be done with it. 75% of the running community agrees. Or go with UD or another brand (maybe Nathan) w/ the risk of potentially bad fit / buying and returning. etc. If you want cheap, you're better off buying a belt and using that for water/fuel - Orange Mud makes a decent one you can use with a normal 32 oz bottle, naked belt is another one fancier mesh one. I bought the cheap Ali vest and never use it...I tend to just use a cheap handheld on anything up to 15miles unsupported.
