The ThinkPad X9 15p comes across as a premium 15 inch laptop that stands out for its OLED screen, strong keyboard and trackpad, good chassis, and solid all around performance. The base 338H configuration is described as having capable integrated graphics, and the larger RAM pool can help graphics workloads. The main knocks are the missing trackpoint and physical buttons, plus soldered RAM and WiFi and an integrated keyboard that hurt repairability. It is also not especially Linux friendly or ultra portable, making it a polished but less traditional ThinkPad.
The base 338h processor option can deliver capable graphics without paying for the x7 upgrade.
The X9 15 line can offer a good daily-driver experience with a good-quality chassis and a great screen.
The keyboard and trackpad can feel especially nice, and the OLED screen can be a standout feature.
The laptop can arrive quickly and can look great out of the box for buyers targeting around $1,850.
The X9 15p configuration can lack a trackpoint, which can make it feel less like a traditional ThinkPad.
Soldered RAM and WiFi modules plus an integrated keyboard can reduce repairability compared with more serviceable designs.
The x7 upgrade may add only modest graphics gains over the 338h option, which can make extra cost hard to justify.
Windows 11 experience can be a major downside, and full Linux compatibility may not be available for this model line.

The "B370" gpu in the 338h has 10 Xe cores, and the x7 upgrade (with B390) adds just 2 more Xe cores.
Save yourself a few hundred bucks if ~10% faster graphics performance isn't a necessity.

To be fair they did warn consumer last December before price skyrocket.
FYI, this Panther Lake generation feels like a stop gap solution, it balances out between Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake HX in term of performance and power efficiency but not better than any of them. I'd wait for next gen Nova Lake HX and Zen6 before committing to 2k+ laptop upgrade.
