Maybe when you looked it happen to be $360, but it was definitely not the every day price.

This refurb Acer Aspire looks strongest as a budget office, school, or media server PC, with an i5 14400, 16GB of DDR5, and a 1TB SSD that make the $360 price feel reasonable for the core parts alone. The Intel UHD 730 and Quick Sync also make it appealing for Plex or Jellyfin, with hardware accelerated 4K transcoding and light gaming like Roblox. The main limits are the proprietary 300W power supply, no extra GPU power cables, and only two occupied memory slots, so upgrades are constrained. It is best suited to stock use or low power expansion.
Common Questions (5)
Without modifications, it is limited to bus-powered GPUs that draw power only from the PCIe slot, roughly 75W max. Examples that fit this constraint include the GTX 1650, RX 6400, RTX 3050 6GB, and older GTX 1050 Ti; cards needing 6- or 8-pin power will not work with the stock PSU.
Yes, it is a strong value for a basic work machine because the i5-14400, 16GB RAM, and 1TB SSD are worth close to the asking price on their own. It is especially attractive if you do not need a discrete GPU and just want a ready-to-use desktop through the next few years.
Updating the BIOS is recommended because 13th- and 14th-gen Intel CPUs can be affected by motherboard heat issues. A better CPU cooler and fresh thermal paste can also help thermals, especially if the stock cooling is dusty or weak.
It has only two memory slots and both are already occupied, so moving to 32GB means replacing both sticks with 16GB modules. That makes the upgrade relatively expensive and may approach the cost of the whole system.
Yes, the i5-14400's Intel UHD 730 with Quick Sync is well suited for Plex, Jellyfin, and ARR setups. It can handle multiple simultaneous 4K hardware-accelerated transcodes while using very little power.

Cheaper in June
If I didn't buy 2 of the Mac mini m4's the last year before the apple jump in price ... I might have bought this, but, I'm getting away from windows os ... and moved to linux for pc's. Happy Hunting in 2026 the Year of the AI scam.

I value this PC at $630 if it's brand new.
CPU $100~$150
MB+Case+Power Supply $100
16GB DDR5 $230
1TB SSD $150
Refurb price is at $360.
If you need an office/school work PC between now to 2028, this $360 PC is a good deal.
I almost want to buy this PC and sell the CPU + 1TB SSD on ebay or facebook to get about $300 back so I paid $60 for the RAM.
And the mobo? That motherboard is likely proprietary but I am sure your local Tiger Direct or CompUSA has those on the shelf. /s

cpu is throttled because of heat.
i tried cleaning out the heat sink with air.
it got faster but my cpu program still says not at full speed.
Cpu currently at 3k mhz but it's supposed to be 3.5k mhz.
and it constantly jumps down to min speed (800 mHz) for a couple cycles.
oh, i'm running 4 monitors so i need to buy a cheap gpu board so not $360 for me.
do cheap video cards exists anymore since the cpu makers included barebones video with their chip?
PLEASE, and I mean no disrespect, don't make suggestions like this. Not worth potentially displacing a family( or more in an appartment ) over a "informed" suggestion.

As for GPUs on this thing, without modifying you're limited to bus powered (75W) cards. So NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650/AMD Radeon RX 6400, etc.
"But those are really expensive for what you get! And old tech!"
I know. But those will drop in. Can easily pull them and restore to stock if anything breaks under warranty.
But, you want to modern game on a budget. Not really possible in 2026, but let's try to be helpful.
Acer uses custom PSUs. This one is rated for 300W.
Option 1 is to use a different Acer PSU. IIRC:
DC.40018.001 = 400W (6 pin), DC.5001B.009 = 500W (6+2 pin).
Those are expensive, so you'll just have to play the "eBay watch" game for a reasonably priced use one.
But either of those should drop in. No idea space tolerances in the case. Measure first. Then find a GPU with an appropriate recommendation for a 400W/500W PSU.
Not advice, blah blah blah consult a professional, proceed at your own risk, but... For the people who are willing to void their warranty and potentially cut wires, good for you for taking an interest in electronics. You're highly unlikely to burn the house down or electrocute yourself if you follow safety standards. More likely you're going to burn up something (motherboard, PSU) and your warranty is voided. Watch tutorials. Insulated gloves are $5. Never touch wires that are actively plugged into an outlet. Try not to touch anything with capacitors. Etc.
Wiring adapters exist, but who knows if they work? Get a multimeter and verify that the source ATX wires match the Asus adapter. Just because a connector fits doesn't mean the wires connect correctly. The ultra budget-friendly option is to splice the wires on the ATX PSU and OEM connector. Ground the green wire in the new PSU to have the PSU in a constant power state. Splice, solder, then heat shrink the voltage and ground wires, and you should be good. For safety reasons, have a fire extinguisher rated for electrical fires present. Mounting is going to vary heavily, but screw holes into a small metal mounting plate should work. Avoid hacks like duct tape/zip ties.
Look at you, hax0ring the system. 👍
If any of this sounds risky, don't try. Again, two safer options mentioned above. Just more limiting/expensive.
