Oof. This one hurts my soul. I paid about $3715 (before tax) last year for the 60V version of this and it only came with 4 batteries. Those things are $700+ each buying separately. And that seemed like a decent deal off the then regular price. Time and efficiencies march ever onward.
That said, this thing has been amazing. I have had no issues and have used it as a pack/tow mule in addition to a mower.
This Greenworks 80V zero turn stands out as a battery powered mower with strong value at the sale price, especially given the six 5Ah batteries and the much higher listed MSRP. The 60V and 80V versions are described as very capable, with no issues so far, and one has even handled towing duties beyond mowing. Battery support looks solid with a four year warranty, and replacement packs are reportedly available at lower cost. The main concerns are Greenworks return and customer service friction, plus some worry about long term battery life and future parts availability. A compelling package if the battery platform fits your plans.
Buyers comparing long-term battery ownership, because the battery warranty is four years and replacement batteries can be found separately for less.
People wanting a newer electric mower with stronger hill performance, because the steering-wheel version is described as newer, heavier-gauge metal, and better on inclines.
People expecting batteries to stay at full runtime for years, because one battery can fail within the first year and others may lose runtime after about three years.
Battery reliability may be inconsistent because one 80V battery reportedly failed within the first year and other batteries reportedly lost runtime after about three years.
Long-term durability may be limited because a $3000 zero-turn is reportedly unlikely to last 15 years without costly repairs and may involve non-serviceable components.
The $2999.99 price is the sale price and it is reportedly frequently discounted; the listed MSRP is about $5699. Compared with a prior 60V version bought for about $3715 with only 4 batteries, this deal includes 6x 5Ah batteries and looks materially better on battery count and price.
The battery warranty is 4 years. One set of Greenworks 80V batteries lasted about 7 years with heavy use, while another set had one battery fail in the first year and the remaining batteries started losing runtime after about 3 years.
Replacement batteries can reportedly be found on eBay from Greenworks' official store for about $180 each. That can lower the long-term cost if a battery wears out or fails.
The steering-wheel version is described as the newer model, with heavier-gauge metal and better performance on inclines. That makes it the more appealing choice if you need extra stability on slopes.
How did you get them to send you a coupon? On the website or in email?
It was email. I have their store card and honestly I think this is one of the times that companies tracking you helped me out. They saw I did not bite the bullet at first and sent the coupon to entice me.
I grabbed this one. Newer model. Lowe's saw me looking and send me a 15% coupon. $2800 with delivery and taxes included.
so i did same thing ... was looking but trying to decide ... they sent me a 10% off coupon but i couldn't stack that and my 10% military discount -- i got all excited but no luck ... anyway ... talked to an actual Greenworks customer service person and they said the lawn mower with a steering wheel is newer, stronger, heavier gauge metal, and better on inclines .... i have a store pickup - hoping assembly is not complicated ... usually isn't ...
I have all my tools greenworks 80v - but for something like this for some reason I'd feel more comfortable buying gas. I would want my 3000$ zero turn to last me 15 years - and who knows when greenworks might change the 80v design or even go under and then you can't get it. I've run into the same thing with many hobbies
I've had 3 greenworks 80v batteries for 3 years and I had one go out within the first year but they replaced it free - the other 2 original batteries are starting to get shorter life

Battery can be had on ebay from greenworks official for $180
Whoah, thanks! Hell, just checked their main site and they are only $350 from greenworks themselves now.
edit: Just realized the batteries in this ad are 5Ah. Mine came with 8Ah. But, the 8Ah (60V) ones are indeed $171 each on their ebay store right now. I am immediately buying a pair.

A $3000 gas zero turn is unlikely to last 15 years without significant and costly repairs. The only ones that exist at $3000 are very poor quality craftsman/MTD/Murray/Cub Cadet with single cylinder Briggs and Stratton motors (a.k.a. Briggs and Scrap 'em) which are terrible motors. They also have cheap transaxles that are not serviceable. The spindles and decks are poor quality. Their warranty is not 4 years either
But to your point, you can probably get parts for them for a while.

And maybe drop the prices on the 54" and 60" deck versions.
