Polymaker Panchroma Starlight PLA is being praised as attractive, high quality decorative filament, with the sparkle and satin colors standing out in person and the non abrasive glitter easing concerns. The price around $12.99 is seen as especially strong for trying a premium brand, and the filament is described as working well in AMS setups, dryers, and dry boxes. The main caution is the cardboard spool, which can be awkward in some AMS systems and may need adapters, tape, or respooling. A solid pick for eye catching prints if the spool format fits your setup.

Are you asking about this filament specifically or 3d printing? If it's the latter google would provide more answers than I can.

ASA and ABS, PETG probably, etc can print parts for outdoors, heat resistance, etc.

Is cardboard only an issue in the AMS? I have an AMS lite and never had problems with any cardboard spools.
I have 20 spools of filament and only 1 is plastic...the rest are all cardboard. AMS Pro 2, P2S, never an issue.

I wouldn't let cardboard stop you from buying filament unless certain AMS and printer models don't work well with it.

I'm noob. Recently got ad5x. Still learning about various type of filaments. I guess this shiny color changing kind depending on viewing angle? Customer photos mainly show figurines. Wondering what else can be done with this kind of filament?

many of these cardboard spools now have glued edges so they're fine, but really a quick strip of electrical tape (if you're really worried about it) solves the problem.

Cardboard spool is a full-stop for me.
I see people say this but what is the reason? On my p1s there is zero difference when using cardboard or plastic.

I print from dryer or AMS. Cardboard can hold moisture even after drying and can raise the humanity in the enclosure. The filament can pull moisture directly from the cardboard.

They cause dust to collect inside the enclosure. This comes from wear of the spool moving and/or filament scraping the cardboard as it unspools.

Drying cycles can cause the cardboard spool to warp, delaminate, weaken its glue joins and lose rigidity. This can add too the other problems with dust and with filament feeding.

In addition to the warping, they have poor rotation and drag due to friction. You can fix this somewhat with adapters you can print, but your adapters have to be able to stand up to heating cycles too.

great response here, I hadn't considered some of those issues even though I haven't faced them myself. 99% of my stuff is cardboard and has functioned just fine but still, points are valid and are concerns if they affect you.

I definitely see why the plastic ones are favored and I may just move to them for the sake of reducing issues, but I also wouldn't let a cardboard spool prevent me from picking up some good filament. I for one, appreciate the response, it's good info.

It's PLA. Heat resistance is bad, everything else is pretty decent. Filaments that look like this are good for anything decorative, anything from like a remote caddy or sink brush holder to figurines, whatever.

You can easily print adapters for the cardboard spools. I'd recommend PTEG. But PLA works in pinch.
