The SoloCam S3 is a solar battery camera best known for 360 degree tracking, strong video quality, and easy solar upkeep. The S3 is described as the Costco version of the S340, with accurate tracking, fast app response, and solid person recognition. Long term reports say the solar panel keeps up well, even through snowy winter, and some setups have run for years without manual charging. The main caveats are reliability and software concerns, including cameras going offline, firmware update problems, limited RTSP and API support, and uncertainty around true 24 hour recording on solar power. A practical pick if you want a wireless solar camera and can live with eufy's ecosystem limits.

  • The SoloCam S3 can deliver accurate tracking and strong video quality during long-term use.

  • Solar charging can work well without requiring frequent manual detaching for charging.

  • The eufy AI features can provide useful person detection and auto recognition in daily monitoring.

  • Using the camera with a Home Base system can enable fast app integration for live monitoring.

  • The SoloCam S3 may not support true 24/7 recording when powered by solar or an outlet.

  • The camera can drop offline periodically and may require a physical power cycle to restore connectivity.

  • App updates can reportedly make eufy cameras inoperable and can come with poor technical support.

  • Solar reliability can degrade over time, including cases where the solar stops working or low-battery behavior recurs.

Yup, and most importantly, it has no API.

Reolink is the new budget camera to buy. Eufy is dead/old news. Their app is shyt, their support is shyt, their products break, they force cloud usage on you which is exactly what you are trying to avoid, notifications are late, etc etc. And ffs how can you only offer RTSP for only a couple cameras, but not others? Eufy was a good stopgap until Reolink came into play. And, Ubiquiti is the real end game. They just need a solar powered camera on their lineup and its all over for Eufy.
I would argue tapo is the new player. They now have 4 PoE cameras and have RTSP enabled on all cameras with a much better app.

Yeah sadly it seems like even with the non-solar, eufy is slowly phasing away rtsp so users are forced to get a homebase, if they want centralized recording
Not really, several newer ones that can be hardwired offer RTSP such as the new S4. They need to enable RTSP on their NVR system though

Can this even support 24/7 recording with solar? If you are plugging in then just look for a non solar model and not pay the extra premium.
No solar camera can support 24/7 u less you hook up a external battery to the solar panel then the battery to the camera. At that point its going ro look like a huge setup hanging from a height.

Have 10 Eufy cameras of various types for 4 years now, zero issues. Battery health degraded to 86%.

I have a few eufy cameras including this one. They're fairly inexpensive but you do get what you pay for because some of them drop periodically and then come back online 12 hours later unless you physically unplug and plug back in. I use the s1 professional base that allows you to put an SSD in for external storage and it's a pretty cool system. Eufy AI is mostly spot on for persons and auto recognition. The eufy app tie in with your home-based s1 brain is pretty fast.
We have amcrest at one business and unifi at another. Unifi is the best but easily five times the cost of eufy and not really needed at our home
i have had 5 of these cameras since they came out and have NEVER had that issue with this camera..

have several s220 and it's nice to have solar in areas that you have pointing towards the house instead of mounted on your house

one only had mic problems but was replaced by RMA

This is the S3 model, which I believe is one of those exclusive Costco models.
However, I believe it's the same as the retail S340.
I would buy it new, on sale at Costco, as they basically have an endless return policy, if you run into any issues.

It is, but using with the Home Base 3, does have some issues as well as any battery/solar Eufy camera.
After the HB3 gets a firmware update, most of the times, the cameras go offline and rebooting doesn't help. Many times, you have to wipe the camera and re-add.
This is a known issue.

Owning a tapo setup, an eufy setup and a baseus setup (freebie). The tapo is by far the worst of the 3. The fact it doesn't even have rich notifications unless you pay is silly. It spends more time offline than the other systems as well. To the point I have put smart plugs on the base station and wired cameras because I got so tired of having to manually power cycle them.

It's cheap, I'll give it that, but I would never recommend it.

local ai filtering for eufy and tapo are completely differenttapo has live tracking while eufy has face recognitioni don't know which would be more important over time but don't think tapo is that weak of an offering vs what we gotten used to with arlo/ring

Nobody does free unlimited rich notifications except eufy, and look into what got eufy in serious hot water regarding rich notifications and privacy concerns.

Then go to the eufy subreddit and tapo subreddit and you'll see my claims 100% backed up.
