This Craftsman screwdriver set is best known for its durable acetate handles and long service life, with the blades and handles still holding up after years of daily use and rough treatment. The set also carries the Sears Craftsman lifetime warranty, and the familiar feel still compares well against rubber-sleeved alternatives. The main drawbacks are the strong aging odor some handles develop and the fact that these are now made in Taiwan rather than the old Western Forge USA versions. It remains a nostalgic, hardwearing set if the smell and origin do not matter.

  • The screwdrivers can hold up for daily use over many years of garage work.

  • The set can be covered by a Sears Craftsman lifetime warranty for long-term ownership.

  • The screwdriver handles can stay durable after drops, pounding, and brake fluid exposure.

  • The set can feel better than rubber-sleeved Klein screwdrivers during everyday use.

  • Some screwdrivers in the set can develop a strong unpleasant odor over time.

  • The set's manufacturing source can differ from older Western Forge versions, with current production reportedly in Taiwan.

  • The odor can worsen when the screwdrivers are stored in an enclosed tool box.

  • Free shipping may not apply broadly, which can make the checkout shipping benefit illusory.

I remember buying a similar set back in 1987 for under $20. and a $20 leather waist tool bag when I had my first job as an electrician's helper.
With today's inflation it's ON SALE for $34.
Minimum wage for me was $4.25c in NYC. Almost 40 years later, it seems the minimum wage has caught up with the cost of living today.

Yep, these were a popular $19.99 Sears sale special (especially with the little keychain) back in the day.Used to be made by Western Forge, I wonder who is making these for them now? Walmart sells Made In USA acetate handled under the Hyper Tough brand, that look just like these.
How much are the Made In The USA Hypertough and are they as good as these or better because of the American pride?
I have to laugh because my neighbour goes on about his American pride but between him, his wife and 2 college aid kids they all drive Japanese and German vehicles while I drive a 2003 Ford F150 and 206 Ford explorer.

Yep, give them to your worst enemy: https://petroleumservicecompany.c...mmonality/
if they had a GOD awful smell is it because it was MADE IN THE USA but better quality? Or Sears stuff is just bad? Or both? I don't recall mine had a bad smell. I do recall people borrowing my screwdrivers, never returning them and I had to start all over again and ended up going to a Black and Decker cordless screwdriver in 2006 with NiCad battery.

I'm not sure what you're asking or saying. I don't care where they're made. I have Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, and German drivers as well. I only care because these MADE IN THE USA drivers smell like barf after aging.

But since you didn't ask, the best quality drivers I own are made in Japan and Germany.

If that F-150 has the 8 foot bed, then you are allowed to have Mega America Pride.

The stinky screwdriver handles are just super durable. Pound on them, drop them from a 14 foot ladder onto concrete, or get them covered in brake fluid.

If you don't want them to stink, don't put them in an enclosed tool box. They have no smell if you keep them on a rack above your workbench, or an open tool belt.

Free shipping at $59 is BS if your order happens to ship from two different locations.

I think our last Sears closed down about 8-10 years ago, I was convinced they were ALL gone now. Lots of private equity and leveraged deals in the past few years, but no real resurrection.

Kids today will never know the joy of being able to buy a band saw and a pool table 50' away from each other, then grabbing a washer, dryer, and a couple pairs of jeans on the way out.
And another ten steps away you could get a pair of Levis

I also wanted to buy these (mostly nostalgia). The $49 shipping isn't real, most other items don't qualify for free shipping. Ended up giving up ordering.

They're $37.99 now, still not bad.
