I've been eying this for a while but the more research I do points me towards the DrinkMate instead. Anyone that has used both that prefers the Sodastream?

Have been eyeing SodaStream for a while, mind share why you think DrinkMate might be better off? I am thinking about hosing an external 20L cylinder instead of constantly using their canisters.

AI response but:
  • Carbonate any liquid: SodaStream explicitly tells you to only carbonate water, because adding juice, wine, flat soda, or cocktails will clog the nozzle and explode sticky liquid everywhere. Drinkmate uses a detachable infuser cap, so you can fizz wine, juice, iced tea, or re-fizz flat drinks without ruining the machine.
  • Higher fizziness / better bubbles: With Drinkmate, you can detach the bottle with the cap still sealed and shake it vigorously while it's under pressure. Shaking forces the $CO_2$ deeper into the liquid instead of venting it off, so drinks taste way more carbonated.
  • No mess when adding flavor: With SodaStream, adding syrup or flavor drops after carbonating plain water causes an instant fizz reaction that lets out half the carbonation before you can even close the cap. On a Drinkmate, you add the flavor first, carbonate it all together, and use the cap's manual release valve to let the foam settle slowly.
  • Easier to clean: Since the infuser mechanism detaches completely from the base unit, you can just rinse it right in the sink if it gets sticky.
  • Saves money on $CO_2$: Newer SodaStreams lock you into their proprietary "Quick Connect" pink cylinders. Drinkmate still uses standard threaded 60L $CO_2$ tanks, so it's much cheaper to use third-party refills or attach a bulk tank adapter hose later on.

I initially considered getting a Drinkmate before buying the SodaStream. However, after watching a YouTube video comparing the two, I decided against it. Drinkmate seems to be much less efficient, especially because it uses significantly more CO₂ for each bottle.
