Been eyeing a NAS upgrade for months and spotted this price dip today — figured I'd share since I've been looking into mid-tier business NAS options myself this past week

It's the TERRAMASTER F4-424 Pro, diskless 4-bay unit, currently sitting at $644.99 on Amazon, which is a decent chunk off the $859.99 list price. this looks like a solid buy point if you need it now.

Intel Core i3-N305, 8-core/8-thread, 3.8GHz turbo — way more horsepower than the older Celeron-based units this replaces
32GB DDR5 4800MHz RAM (non-ECC, soldered, so no upgrade path — worth knowing before you buy)
Dual 2.5GbE ports with link aggregation, up to 5Gb combined bandwidth
Dual M.2 NVMe slots for SSD caching
Dual USB 3.2 10Gbps ports for fast external transfers

Their software support sucks, especially for Plex and Emby media servers

Reinstall with Debian, then OpenMediaVaut for storage management. From there, you can either use OMV for docker container management, or install Portainer as a separate docker manager. Plex, Jellyfin, Navidrome, Immich, Photoprism, Seafile, Wireguard, etc. then can be installed very easily.

Cheap hardware in terms of dollar per drive bay / max TB storage, maybe? I have two of their old F4-series chassis with a hidden extra sara port (4 bays at the front, with the 5th sara port & hdd space hidden behind of the plastic front panel) and I still feel they are of great value nowadays.
