The assumption that a gibson is being bought by guitarists is like an iphone being bought by a techie. They are luxury items chiefly purchased for flexing altho an Iphone is infinitely more useful.

Actual guitarists overpay for tube amps when solid state sound better and are more reliable, for Duncan pickups that sound the same as generic pickups since both are 1930s technology, and yes, Gibson guitars. I agree with you that the Custom Shop guitars are for well-known pros or dentists who can't play, but the point is still true: Guitarists waste money on stupid shit that doesn't make them sound any better.
