Got several of these. They all just work. Have the Realtek RTL 9210 control chip which is solid. Not tool-less, which IMO is superior if you want ACTUAL heat transmission and function. If you use these for an NVME rapid swap drive then tool-less may be a more important feature.

station drivers has the rtl 9210 firmwares. Its decent, lid is a heatsink, back is plastic though. Mid cooling, as entire lid is metal, but ridges are small, if your drive cooks just cinch regular m.2 heatsink with a zip tie in place of the lid.

Ever since owning one of these Orico enclosures since this past BF, my experience using it has been smooth sailing due to its reliability based on my use case which its main purpose has been to clone the SSD of one PC in order to transplant the cloned drive into another PC.

Damn, I just bought this out of the blue for $12.59 a week ago. Works well so far and feels solid with the pad. But is it worth it to buy and return the "other" one for $2.10? Too bad Amazon doesn't have a price match...

Related question, how safe is it to use the insulation pad with the plastic film on it? I took mine off of course, but thinking about future changing of SSDs.

Not really, man. That's more trouble than it's worth. If it were me, I would call customer service and see if you can talk your way into convincing the representative to give you a promotional credit instead. I've lucked out plenty of times doing that.

It's definitely not worth it.
