Not even a particularly well-rated helmet: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bi...s.html#276

Wow. Based on that, it seems like it isn't a good deal at any price.

Ooof 1-star.
For context, the very highly rated P2R A20 MIPS at around $60 (https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bi...ngs.html#9) is 59% less likely to give you a concussion than this Altis Trail. The absolutely best rated helmet would be 77% less likely to concuss you.

*Edit: According to the ratings from the VT helmet testing lab, which has emerged as the global leader in comprehensive independent helmet testing for over 15 years.

Yeah, but the a20 is a road helmet, not a trail helmet.

They are both half shells. The A20 is available for road and for trail as well (the A20/AT: https://p2rsports.com/en-US/produ...mtb-helmet). The Altis might have slightly more coverage for the back of the head, at the expense of an absolutely pitiful test result at the VT labs.

100% pay for a good helmet because as already mentioned, they're not that expensive.

Make sure to check the date of manufacture. Usually deeply discounted helmets are super old stock they are trying to get rid of as last ditch before they hit the landfill. 3-5 years is the recommended lifespan from date of manufacture as the materials can start to break down and lose effectiveness. If this is one of them mass produced post-covid rush era helmet it could be something quite dated now.

I'd definitely replace a helmet after 3-5 years of use, but wouldn't worry much about one that's been sitting for a while in a warehouse somewhere.
