This Gears of War E Day Xbox controller stands out as a collector focused limited edition with strong visual detail, including 3D etching and raised accents that feel more special than a simple color swap. The design gets praise for looking distinctive, and the Xbox battery setup is defended as flexible because it can use AA cells or rechargeable packs. The main knocks are the $90 price, the lack of included rechargeable batteries, and worries about stick drift or sticky triggers over time. A flashy pick if the design matters more than the hardware debate.

E-waste Controller more like it! This will develop stick drift within 6 months.
I went for the $10 3 yr warranty just for that reason.

I've had mine for over 10 years and no issues. But both my controller have sticky triggers though. The rubber sticker damper on the trigger deteriorates over time and becomes sticky. Maybe they made them better long ago but I've seen some videos of joystick swap with hall, tmr but requires soldering.
Lucky you, send it to a museum. I've gone thru 1 elite controller and 2 regular ones since the release of the Series X. Im a casual player these days so don't even play that much.
My last one was the limited edition "Ghost Cipher Special Edition" with only a a couple months of light use. Never again buying Xbox controllers until that change those sticks.

This is true, this should only be for collectors but if they actually want to use it, they should have their favorite TMR sticks ready to solder in when the time comes.

It's insane how times changed—we went from '90s Mad Catz being a punishment to third-party controllers completely embarrassing Microsoft, who keeps repainting the exact same outdated hardware with shiny new colors.

Imagine paying for a controller that needs AA batteries for $90.
Imagine using a controller with a non serviceable battery instead of a rechargeable battery pack with a AA backup

I don't know why you all keep saying this, as nobody has used AA batteries in a Xbox controller since the 360. Everyone uses a rechargeable pack. Stop with the nonsense.
I agree. It's a huge benefit to use your own rechargable batteries or even regular batteries if you want.

With a GameSir Xbox licensed controller, you get TMR sticks at this price point, and even Valve included them with the $99 Steam Controller. You can't really blame Microsoft if people are willing to pay $90 for a standard controller. I understand some are buying them to collect, but Microsoft didn't even put much effort into designing this Gears of War controller. It's literally just a Locust pothole with the Gears logo inside it.

Is there a way to fix the sticky triggers? I've had two basically die on me b/c of the the right trigger consistently sticking in and now the controller is largely unusable b/c of it.
Yes, on youtube. I just fixed mine yesterday

you can't figure out why people always mention the fact these controllers use AA batteries even though you admit everyone uses a rechargeable pack?

Imagine not knowing it's consumer friendly by design.
"consumer friendly" is forcing the consumer to pay for a rechargeable pack or a supply of AA batteries even though every other console manufacturer provides controllers with rechargeable battery packs?

it's always hilarious to see Xbox fanboys cope with being taken advantage of by Micro$oft, but I've never seen someone call such an obvious anti-consumer practice like this described as "consumer friendly".

you should probably learn what that term means before you try to use it next time. Smilie
