Workhorse miter saw, mine has been a rock since getting it. Not the most compact but it'll handle anything you throw at it.

Upgrade the blade though to get the best experience. Dewalt blades aren't bad for stock blades, but better blades can be had.

It's crazy that this is listed as 850 msrp, but it is a good deal. I got an led shadow kit somewhere for mine and installed it and it's a very nice saw.

I've had this model for almost 10 years, and recently bought an aftermarket illumination kit and it was a great investment. Super simple to install! Ran me about $85

Great saw. But I'm about to go sell it to a buddy. Decided space was an issue and I got the Bosch 12". (Not the new version getting iffy reviews)

So I don't have any mitre saw and not real familiar...how does this compare to skil mitre saw like MS6305-00?

I have a couple circular saw and jigsaw and a multitool. Thinking the mitre may be more useful than a table saw. I need to replace our deck steps with stringers and boards in the next few months...

Bought the Home Depot one. Lowes had the same saw listed for $399.99 for several weeks. Today they marked it as $629, not available online. Guessing they didn't want to online price match.

No clue how it compares, but the DWS779 is a workhorse saw.

If you're doing stringers, a circular saw is probably best. If you're doing deck boards and need to do a lot of cross cuts, a circular saw + square will work or you can use the miter for quicker cuts and any miters.

Your circular saw and jig saw will be just fine for this project. Buy an inexpensive 7 or 12 inch Swanson speed square, use it as a saw guide, and you will be amazed at the accuracy of your current saws.

I have both a miter saw and table saw. I used the table saw again today and cannot even remember the last year I used the miter saw. The 10" Skil saw you referenced is a tremendous value. But, for not much more you can get the much-better-designed Metabo C10FSB2M. Skil also makes an excellent 7 1/4" sliding miter saw that actually is portable and will cross-cut a 2x10. 7 1/4" blades, even great ones, are not very expensive.

This DeWalt saw is a relic - takes up LOTS of space and weighs 50+ pounds. Good blades are extremely expensive and the design is 40 years old. I never use the miter saw I have, so giving up more garage real estate to a decades-old-design saw I will neither use nor be able to move is a non starter.

The thing is enormous. If you're going to get a slider at all consider 10" instead.
