There's a real difference between leather straps and birki buc (or whatever their synthetic is called). Spring for the leather if you can.

Not anymore. Quality has gone down since they became the "cool sandal" to have. They also got bought out by private equity and I guess changed the materials and/or factory on the cork beds.

100%. My leather ones are now smoove as butter. The birko-flors were rough and a much stiffer footbed.

You can also buy direct from Birkenstock. They have regular sales a few times a year, and you can get sandals for about $70-80 delivered. (You might have to buy a few pair, and the selection may be reduced compared to the normal priced items.)
