Right, I've never heard of a water cooled hand tool. The push mower is a bit higher demand but I'm not sure any of this compares to the draw of a zero turn—they're claiming 32HP which is 5.3HP per battery, compared to your push mower which is like 2HP per battery for about the same physical size. You're also dividing up the abuse of your mower across 4 batteries over that 10 years. I'm sure it's fine for smaller lawns where the batteries don't heat up much but if you're running this thing for an hour every time you mow I'd be skeptical of longevity
I'm in the same spot - love the idea but hesitant due to reliability concerns. That said, this has a 4yr battery warranty (not sure how extensive) so in theory if your batts fail within that range you get a new set and good to go for another few years. Conversely with a gas mower you're doing at least 3-4 oil and filter changes during that period and still running up against the cheap hydro issue right about the same time.

Another thing is I'll be able to buy motor oil, filters, and hydrostatic fluid forever, but these batteries are proprietary. There are a ton of examples of brands discontinuing battery form factors. I can probably do 3rd party at that point but I haven't had much luck with those even for power tools, let alone the size I'd need to run this thing

True. However most mowers in the $3k range have sealed hydros so YMMV as to servicing them yourself. Seems like most mfgs are building in a 5yr planned obsolescence cycle

I've have the 40V greenworks mower, trimmer, and hedge trimmer. Mowing season about 6 months with slightly less thn 1/2 acre. I have a total of 4 batteries just shy of 10 years and most of the batteries have 80-90% capacity. I'm surprised how well they have lasted. I was skeptical but have been happy with the longevity.
My 40v have been reliable my 80v died the first use.

The 12th photo says "charge your device while you ride". Are you supposed to ride around your lawn with a big extension cord or am I missing something?

I have a 4br house on a little over 2 acres and I mow my entire yard with the 60V version and I still have 30% capacity left. Battery tech has come a very long way. Trust me I was also skeptical about using an electric mower but I am glad I decided to try. Just as much power if not more. Pretty much zero maintenance. No oil to change or keep up with. No gas to keep up with. Almost zero noise when you are mowing. I would highly recommend trying one of these out but I personally only have the 60V version. Make sure you let your batteries cool for two hours after mowing before you recharge to extend the life of the batteries.
Oh. I never heard this before and curious where you got this information from. I usually just pop them on the charger unless its really hot from a summer mow.

Yep, my Craftsman mower was basically scrap when they discontinued their 40v line of products and someone stole my battery out of the garage.

Edit: after several people replying with the same answer, I withdraw my inquiry. I am fully informed it's a USB port to charge your cell phone.

I see on their website the 60V version with (6)8ah batteries is available for the same $3k. I also see they now have an 82V version. I wonder is 82V will be their top line going forward and they drop either the 80V or 60V lines?

Modern EVs have large, water cooled batteries that last 500k miles. This mower has small individual packs that are not cooled. From what I can tell that means you end up replacing those individual packs after 3-5 years, at a cool $1.5-2k. Anyone have experience with these? Am I wrong?
I believe you are correct and that is the electric scam. Every few years buying new batteries for all these battery powerd yard tools is not worth not having to use gas. I fell for it a few years back and bought kobalt string trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer a couple extra batteries. Few years later and very light use those batteries don't hold more than a few minutes charge each. I go thru probably four batteries to weedeat my house of about 20 minutes of use. I will eventually buy a gas powered, commercial stihl weed eater and never have to buy another one the rest of my life. Only battery handheld tools like drills and screw guns i still like and recommend.

I think i spend maybe $12 to do an oil and filter change on my JD zero turn. I don't think i would compare oil changes to replacing these batteries.
