there are many current motherboards that dont support bluetooth. my AM5 Asus TUF X670E running a Ryzen 7 9800X3D does not have it.

Useful if you need to add BT to something, like an older computer... but seriously what doesn't already have BT these days. For upgrading from older BT versions, not that much significant has changed for audio streaming (most BT useage??) since BT 2.0 as far as I'm aware. Connectivity, low power mode, directionality, etc, etc., sure. Just not much in the way of actual audio improvements.
EDIT: The improvements to connectivity and lower power should improve range and lower signal drops, so can be said to have improved audio. LC3 codec is an improvement over previous basic BT codec, but still lags behind other options like AptX HD and LDAC.
EDIT2: Codec like AptX HD requires a minimum bitrate not supported by BT older than v4.0. So yes if your BT is pre 2010, you might be helped with an upgrade.

PS. Anyone know is this really BT 5.0, like I see mentioned, or the up to date v5.2 - v5.4? (v5.0 is already 10 years old.)

Bought this 5 years ago, it worked ,but the less than 10 foot range was too limiting for me did have a half wall to pass through so was a tall ask for something with nearly no antenna.

A lot of off lease business stuff doesn't have Bluetooth.

You have the X670E-Plus? Looks like there's a 2nd version the X670E-Plus Wifi that adds wifi and bluetooth not included with base model. Ah well. (ie. if yours DOES have wifi, then it also has bluetooth.)

I also got one a few years ago, but paired it with a USB extension cord that I used to place the receiver up high and away from any metal/electronics. The range at that point as significant, passing through many walls, for listening with my Bluetooth headphones.

The Mister FPGA, popular with retro game enthusiasts, lacks Bluetooth. Though most prefer to get adapters to use classic controllers as most complain that Bluetooth creates latency making fighting games and shmups unplayable.

If you absolutely need something tiny for a keyboard or something would be okay... but this is decade, old technology and you can buy bluetooth 6.x adapters for the same price. The only downside is they're larger.
