This is a decent rice cooker. Especially for the price. I bought it for my mom as a mothers day present a few years back. Key to making rice better in anything like this is making sure to wash the rice until the water is basically clear. Usually takes 2-4 washes. Then always want to make sure the rice is even. Then she pulls the power on this because it will stay in heat mode plugged in. Let it sit 5-10 minutes never opening the lid. Then open it and stir it thoroughly and close the lid for another 5 minutes.

Some people season with butter and/or salt or other things with it. But most don't if they plan on making enough that there are leftovers and the rice could be used for a different purpose in another meal.

It burns the bottom so you have to throw away about half of what you cook, thus reducing carbs 40%

Carb reducing "tech" 🤔 I guess it does, technically. Appears the "magic" is in Step #2.

From AI:

"The CarbReduce steam basket reduces carbohydrates through a specialized two-step separation process during cooking. It physically separates the starch-heavy water from the rice, preventing the grains from reabsorbing it.

1. High-Temperature Starch Dissolution

Boiling: The cooker heats water to a precise boil to cook the rice.

Dissolving: High heat breaks down and dissolves the easily digestible starches (amylopectin) out of the grains.

Release: These starches leach directly into the surrounding cooking water.

2. Physical Separation and Draining

Perforation: The basket features tiny holes along the bottom and sides.

Isolation: The starchy water drains out of the basket into the bottom of the main inner pot.

Steaming: The rice finishes cooking via steam, suspended safely above the carbohydrate-heavy liquid."

Slap a mirror on this (and my fridge) so I can see my fat face when I go to open it 🫣😅

Side note: putting rice in the fridge will increase the amount of resistant starch in the rice from 0.6 g (hot fresh rice) to 1.6 g per 100g of rice. Freezing the rice will increase this a little bit, like 2-3g per 100 g of rice. So, basically, the trend of freezing rice to reduce digestible carbs is true, but it's not that significant nor much better than just putting rice in the fridge.

This instant pot rice cooker probably makes a bigger difference if it works as advertised.

i have this one a few years now. If you try to cook back to back batches of rice, sometimes they go wonky and do not heat up enough to cook the rice. Happened with 2 different ones when I was trying to cook big bulk meal preps. Otherwise not a bad rice cooker for 45 bucks if your an occasional rice eater.

I wonder if it's due to the fact that the instructions say you must use extra water and they are not using it enough?

Never burns when I use the pot-in-pot method. I use covered Ti backbot pots in my 6 qt. Never ant clean-up effort at all./ Nice thing about this 12 qt is the ability to use a much larger pot for p-i-p.

I freeze my rice a few times a week (vs fridge). Always comes out better for me when I reheat. Having grown up in Asia this was always just SOP. That I've been getting double the amount of resistant starch is bonus!

Tho now I really have to stop blaming rice for my big 'ol gut 😅
