Even 16TB models were a lot less than this just 2 years ago. I hate this timeline.

Look, we know its the demands from AI. So just sell everything to AI. Come back when the price become sane again. Don't insult anyone's intelligence.

At this point, it just seems it jumps from one scam to another. Money must be invested (for retirement) and the grifters exploit this. So they'll just move to the next scam that makes no sense from a valuation standpoint and everyone will nod along. You run into issues when you try and think there's any logic or rationale to it.

Prices will never come down. Computing is being pushed to the cloud on purpose to gouge those monthly subscriptions. Your IoT devices like your phone will be access points and nothing more. This is all by design.

That reminded me to check how much I paid for an 8TB WD Easystore drive back in 2017.
$129.99
Where is my time machine to go back 10 years?!

That is $178.74 in today's dollars, which is only $120 less than the cost today, according to the US inflation calculator [bls.gov].

The time machine cost would probably be much more than this.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks AI is going away after some bubble burst has not been in a position to realize its value or to see its value realized. The way we use AI will continuously evolve as that business model refines itself but there is NO going back. Supply will not outpace demand. The projection models from a pre-AI era are no longer accurate and those who rely on them will continue to be disappointed at prices and ultimately access.

You're probably not wrong, and I'm definitely someone who doesn't see much value in what AI has offered. It all seems gimmicky to me, shoved into spaces where it isnt needed or doesn't belong. Tbh moving forward with tech like this in a world that hasn't been better with privacy/security seems very concerning, and will avoid it like a plague if that is how things pan out. I'll either end up the velociraptor or the bald eagle..

Ai isn't going away but historically any "big server task" eventually works on a tiny handheld device. The server farm crazy will subside.
