Great looking speakers, but you'll want to add a subwoofer which is a lot more expense. I went with KRK studio monitors for office a few years ago, no regrets. I got KRK-10's so 10" sub in each speaker, sounded great but cut off at 30hz, so i got the SVS SB-1000 to round things out, perfect now. Can use "Peace" Equalizer if you want a digital EQ which i prefer.
These and a subwoofer will beat any soundbar out there. You won't get the lag of going through a receiver or a more complicated setup. If you really think you will get something out of surround sound, go with a home theatre setup. But these things are great, less complicated, and wake and sleep with your TV.

As a huge Klipsch fanboy, I have to recommend The Fives over these... if you can find them on sale. (They've been as low as $400 on SD.) Alternatively, if you're looking for home theater use, Edifier S1000MkII dig deeper and are 120W vs 100 so they'll be better for movies. (The S2000MkII are even better, but are significantly more expensive.) But if you're looking for sound detail, or pairing with a turntable, I would go with these or The Fives.
I have the klipsch Computer speakers with sub but the sound quality just doesn't cut it for me. Is this the best model Klipsch bookself type speaker for that type of use?
Klipsch "The Fives" are much better speakers, and have gone on sale for less than this in recent memory. That said, they are being phased out and replaced by the newer, and significantly more expensive "The Fives II". So there's no guarantee you'll find them at that price moving forward.

Are you referring to Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 for PCs? They are $170 and sound is meh. They do connect well to old PCs. Can these R-50PM connect to a 15 year old PC?

Meh, for a 5.25" woofer active speaker the JBL 305p would give you far better sound quality for less money, i.e. less risk of your ears bleeding from that harsh Klipsch R series aluminum tweeter. https://a.co/d/0aIhghUI

The Klipsch does have more connectivity options but that's easily remedied with an intermediary device like this: https://a.co/d/00HuZQyr
