One of my favorite games of all time, if you like games likes batman series and GTA/saints row it's like a mix of that with a pretty great cop/criminal storyline and some downright amazing missions.
One of the best games I ever played. I'm sure someone will point out the flaws and compare it unfairly to GTA, but there's something about this game that makes it special to me. The setting is incredible. I wish a sequel with a bigger map was made.
Great game, but I found the fighting mechanics and difficulty tough. Maybe it was just trying to play it on a small screen/Steam Deck
Fighting mechanics and difficulty tough? The fighting mechanics are like the Batman Arkham games which are highly praised. Also, I don't know how anyone can find this game difficult at all... Oh well, to each their own.
To me, this game is way better than any GTA game. The hand to hand combat is 10x better, the driving mechanics is better, the shooting mechanics is the weakest part of this game but still better than GTA. Then there's the free running/parkour this game has that's non existent in the GTA games. All the random mini games in GTA forces you to do in the missions has always been annoying asf to me.

Yeah, I said it.
FWIW, I'm not the person you replied to but if the 'fighting mechanics are like the Batman Arkham'...then anyone who doesn't like QTE events (or has trouble with them) could easily describe the concept as "tough." Personally that style of game is a complete turn off to me as you aren't really playing, just reacting. It is almost like a beat game but with parries / blocks / attacks as opposed to on screen note prompts. I want a game where I can chose how to fight, not if A, then B, if D, then E (or worse, reacting to on screen button prompts) If you like that, great, but not liking a certain game play style (or being good at it) doesn't mean you are wrong or needs chastising. Honestly, I think a lot of people like the Arkham game play style because they are NOT good at games which have a much more nuanced style of combat. They almost need that formulaic, timing focused style game play. Also not a surprise those games tend to have really simple driving and shooting mechanics as well.
And based on your description of GTA vs SD, it sounds like they aren't even similar, so why should they be measured head to head if by your own account they are barely similar? To me that is like comparing Dying Light and Doom just because both are FPS games.
P.S. I would agree with you the mini games in GTA (especially the yoga in GTA V) were painful.

I appreciate you for respectfully disagreeing... but if you think that the fighting system is just QTE, then you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. In Sleeping Dogs, you have full control of your movement, attacks, and combos. The "QTE" that you're talking about is not QTE at all. To dodge in Sleeping Dogs is basically just like parrying in any other game.
As far as the Batman games, I'm personally not a huge fan of those games for different reasons but to say that people like that game because they suck at games is ridiculous lol. That game is universally praised by gamers and critics. I've never heard anyone mention that it was a casual or "cozy" type of game.
Now as far as why I'm comparing Sleeping Dogs to GTA? Do I really have to break this down and explain it to you?... They are the SAME genre of videogame with the exact same concept. And people compare the two ALL THE TIME, I am not the first person to do it. Are you also confused why people compare Final Fight to Streets of Rage? Or Street Fighter to Mortal Kombat? Tony Hawk vs Skate? Etc..
Again, I appreciate your response but you have some truly bad takes, and you're just flat our wrong about the QTE thing.

I'm not saying it is a QTE, but it is a very timing based and formulaic so very similar. If A, then B (within a brief window), if no B, then C happens. Rince and repeat 20 times per combat encounter, every encounter. You could program a simple script to make your player unstoppable based off on screen queues. At best it is akin to a QTE event with a movement / location based modifier. As long as you are within X pixels of the NPC, event occurs, outside of X pixel, event doesn't occur. Not a huge difference in terms of function. You could easily replace the enemy NPC with a huge "PRESS (A) BUTTON within (Y) seconds" and accomplish the same thing.
And no, GTA and Sleeping Dogs aren't the same game, just because they are 3rd person games with cars, doesn't mean they are the same. They might have some overlap on a Venn diagram, but to pretend it is directly comparable shows a very narrow understanding of at least one of them. You might as well be comparing Mortal Kombat to Streets of Rage. Both 2D games with combat on a flat plane, but they ain't the same. Or Zelda BOTW with Diablo. Now if you were to compare GTA to Saints Row, that might be a decent comparison. Or Sleeping Dogs to Watch Dogs could be closer (still not the same). But yes, your grandma probably couldn't tell them apart.
"Universally praised"....that doesn't mean what you think it means. Universally = everyone. Even if I was the only one who didn't like Arkham....it ain't universally. Super popular, yes, great reviews, yes, universally, no.
BTW, I didn't say "people like that game (universally and only because) because they suck at games is." I said a lot of people, probably, and in my opinion, may like that kind of game for that reason. LOL...you don't want people painting with a wide brush but here you come with the paint sprayer.

Lol OK, now I know you've obviously never played Sleeping Dogs.. And you don't know what QTE means. Just because something is timing based, doesn't make it QTE lol. A lot of games, you have full control of a character in combat, then you parry by pressing a button at an exact time. Zelda botw, Street Fighter, and tons of other games do this. Does that make their combat QTE? No. No one had ever said that about Zelda or SF.. Just admit you're wrong and move on. No need to over explain - you're not gonna baffle me with bs and convince me lol.
It's like comparing "Mortal Kombat to Streets of Rage?" Lol not even close. Those games are from completely different genres. Both GTA and Sleeping Dogs are sandbox open world games, story driven, mission based, mini games, etc. Again, I can't believe I even have to explain this to you... Just because some of their gameplay mechanics are different, doesn't mean you can't compare them. By your logic, we shouldn't be comparing any games against each other then. BTW Sleeping Dogs to Watch Dogs is actually a way farther reach than comparing SD it to GTA. That's absolutely ridiculous lol. Now you're just doubling down on how absolutely clueless you are and how you're trying to speak on something you have no knowledge of.
As far as the term "Universally".. Have you heard of the term "figure of speech?" when someone says something is "universally praised" it doesn't literally mean every single person on the face of the planet lmao. Honestly, I'm not trying to be insulting here, but is English your first language? Cause maybe there's a language barrier between us... And we're not even having a difference of opinions at this point. You're just being obnoxious and don't want to admit you're wrong. Let go of the ego bro.
(didn't read 99% of that rant) Let go of the ego bro.
Buy a mirror...bro. I got nothing to prove. I made a simple statement which you have turned into some holy war because you feel that I have offended your favorite inanimate video game. Then because you were so upset I tried to CLARIFY all the things you misconstrued, but that seems to have inflamed you further. I tried....
This has been a lot of fun but I am getting bored with you arguing with yourself, flip flopping between points, or just shoving words in my mouth so you have something to bicker with.
P.S. Feel free to have the last word (or page), clearly you need it.
