I mean none of these hinges survive rough wear and tear. I think a 7th grader is old enough to learn to take care of their stuff. If you do have concerns one common hack is to loosen the hinge screws a quarter turn so they don't put as much pressure on the mount but no idea if that actually works.

I've had two yoga over the past decade (none recently though) and neither developed hinge issues.

I bought it used from BB (open box), only 4 circles battery life and I'm using it for studying in the library, and the hinge is great, very sturdy even though I'm not very nice with it. I use it rough, but it's good so far.

Damn... I got the 8GB RAM, 16", AMD 7640HS version of this last year for under $200. Just before pricing went into the stratosphere.

Beware the power button issues. Might want to set the laptop to power on when you open the lid. No problem with the hinge, but I'm careful with it.
