I believe the 779 and 780 are both current models. The 780 has the shadow line, this one no. Other than that, they are nearly identical. Both are designs for the early 90's, both are super heavy with very expensive blades, and both take a tremendous amount of space in your shop. The newer designs by others are significantly better, but if you have space and need, this is a workhorse. (Most have neither space nor need)
