The Sony a6400 is an older but still capable mirrorless camera, especially for buyers who plan to pair it with better lenses. The body price has been seen at similar levels from Sony and Amazon, with some bundles adding freebies, cash back, or no tax through a Sony card. The kit lenses draw the biggest criticism, especially the compact 16 to 50 lens, which is described as weak enough that body only plus a prime lens makes more sense. It feels like a solid camera platform, but the lens choice matters more than the body here.
Common Questions (4)
Body-only is often the better value if you plan to use better glass, because the stock kit lenses are described as weak and limiting. Pairing the a6400 with a prime or higher-end zoom can make a much bigger difference than paying for the kit lens.
Several comments place the same kit around $700-$804 recently, so $948 is a noticeable increase. The a6400 itself is still a capable body, but this pricing is not especially compelling versus recent sales or buying body-only.
The a6400 is an older model with the same sensor as the a6300 and only a few quality-of-life improvements. It can still be a strong camera, but newer models may offer better value if you are buying fresh in 2026.
The same price is available directly from Sony, and that purchase includes 5% back from Sony. That can make the direct buy more attractive than a third-party listing at the same sticker price.

But do yourself a favor and budget for prime lenses. They don't even have to be very expensive. Look in to Sigma primes. And check out ArthurR on YouTube for some great guidance on lenses.

Although like noted above no real color grading, but I was referring more to enthusiast filming.
We have enough Megapixels, nothing really new in optics.
Imo, anything made in the last 10 years is likely plenty good for most. I'm on Z50 and still discover stuff Odidn't know here and there.
.
some people love to live in debt or whatever, until the cock crows. ooops should have re-thought, to late.
And the a6700 is the reason why I sold my R7!
