This TayMac RaynGuard in use outlet cover is a weatherproof upgrade for outdoor outlets, with the clear vertical design appealing for seeing the connection and the metal version drawing interest for added durability. The price looks better than local store pricing, and the same brand and model is noted at Lowe's for more. The main caution is sun exposure, since plastic covers can get brittle and crack over time, while metal is favored for longer life. It is a practical pick for exposed exterior installs where durability matters.
Common Questions (4)
The plastic version can get brittle in sun and may crack after about 3 years; another report says plastic covers can last 10-15 years before breaking. Metal is the safer choice for outlets exposed to significant direct sun.
The comments raise this as a compatibility concern, but one report says these exact covers are used on commercial light poles with GFCIs without issues. That suggests the cover itself is compatible in typical outdoor installations, though the conduit/box setup still needs to match local electrical code.
The exact same model was reported at $11.98 at Lowe's locally, so the Amazon deal is cheaper. A polycarbonate alternative was also mentioned at $7.93, which is lower than the metal version but with different material durability.
A clear-cover version was specifically wished for to make the outlet connection visible, and the current cover was described as looking more industrial. White was also requested, so the gray finish may not suit every exterior.

Metal $8.33 - $1.03 (Amz saving) = $8.33
Different of $1.27 worth the metal box? I have always use the plastic but they broke after about 10 - 15 years in the sun. Can you use it with the plastic conduit with the grounding wire hooked up to the box?

that said, these are easily had for under $10 at big box stores around here (significantly so if you buy multiple) - this is a meh deal on a questionable temu replica product at best. If its MY house, I'd buy reputable quality - if its a rental or you're moving soon, buy cheap chinese junk. Building materials competition is so great that they're profits are cut to the bone, if you find cheaper versions from overseas, its because they're significantly worse in material or manufacture to be so.
you answered your own question... on the sunny side of the house where it will be exposed to significant direct sun, go metal.
