I did this deal yesterday at my local Best Buy in Yorba Linda, CA Best Buy. I purchased online for pickup. It was ready within an hour, i brought my grey Switch 1 with power cable, dock and straps. I completed the trade in and the only thing they required was the console w/joycons and the power cable. He let me keep the docs and straps. They said they just recycled the other parts. I also had the same issue as the other poster about the rep saying I only get $75 back, i showed the receipt, the manager came and showed me the screen that it does shows $75 trade in and $75 for trade in promo with Switch 2 purchase. He said the $150 will be refunded back to my credit card within 48 hours. Process was easy, the only quality check they did was they made sure it turned on and that iis it.

Now is the time to trade up if you were planning to get the switch 2 anyway. It still plays all the switch 1 games. Prices go up in September.

I don't know if I should. My 8yo son plays his OLED handheld 80% of the time, and the Switch 2 has worse battery and ergonomics. Also just bought Mobapad joycons and he's been loving his Switch OLED even more. Good deal, but I think I'll pass for now.

In my experience Best Buy stores doesn't really care about the power or HDMI cables. They probably do if it's a proprietary cable but if you're missing an HDMI cable they're probably not going to worry about it. I traded in a PS4 Slim for a PS5 Slim during the holidays when they had a trade in bonus and they didn't care about the HDMI.

Confirming my trade in with my v1 switch:

I went to bestbuy this morning with my v1 switch (HAC-001). They checked the system and the accessories and were able to take it without checking the model number. They said I will receive the $150 credit back on my payment. Good luck!

Just picked up mine with a oled trade in, I think they only need the joycon power cord dock(maybe) as essential, but I also bring the strip and handler just in case; the process is smooth. It only show $130 on trade in receipt but there are $75 promotion on their terminal so should be good.

Thank you for your quick reply and your original post! I called in to Best Buy just to double check it it sounds like as long as you are bringing in official joycons in good condition/working order then it should be ok.

I asked because I'm looking to trade in an OLED model but with grey joycons, vs the red/blue ones that originally came with that model.

No, you have to order the switch 2 online for store pick up or shipping, and then also select trade in and select your console.

Do the store pick up if possible because they will be able to check your system and then offer you the credit on the spot.

If you do the shipping, you will have to ship your old console back and then wait for another 2 weeks to get the credit back.

If you go through the form on BestBuy, it has you answer if you have the controllers and power cable. If you take either off, it'll knock the trade-in value way down.

I just turned mine in and also took the dock since I don't need it anymore.

The form you fill out requires the controller(s) and power cord, or the value gets nerfed. I just traded mine in but I took the dock as well.
