This trade in deal mainly turns a Switch OLED or original Switch into a cheaper Switch 2, with the strongest appeal being the high trade value and easy in store pickup when the promo is recognized. The Switch 2 adds 1080p, HDR, VRR, faster loads, and smoother gameplay, while still playing Switch 1 games. The main knocks are the LCD screen, which can look washed out or smeary next to OLED, and the shorter battery life. Trade in rules and store handling vary, so accessories, model selection, and promo application can affect the final total.

  • The trade-in promotion can work smoothly when the store applies the $75 bonus and $130 trade-in value correctly.

  • The deal can support quick in-store setup by letting digital games download again after signing into the same Nintendo account.

  • The Switch 2 upgrade can deliver smoother gameplay and faster loading times compared with Switch OLED.

  • The Switch 2 screen can look vibrant for high-contrast or dark games like Ori.

  • The $75 extra credit can be confusing or fail to apply for certain SKUs, including special editions like Splatoon OLED.

  • Switch 2 screen response times can be miserable, especially for people comparing against OLED displays.

  • Switch 2 visuals can look washed out, and some players report missing more game details than on Switch OLED.

  • Trade-in outcomes can drop if required accessories are missing, including controllers or the power cable.

I just did this deal, I went in-store and traded in a switch 2 with the dock and power supply and got a $130 gift card and a one time use $75 coupon. The sales person did minimal checking of the condition of the switch (very light visual and turned it on, did not actually try the controllers). If you do the deal online it shows a mario 40th game case, they are not able to easily do get this to you if you do the trade-in in-store. They ended up doing it for me by selling me 2 games with my purchase and then immediately refunding it (the promo for the case in-store is different than online). Hope this helps someone.
yes, the $130 gc and $75 coupon is the way it went for me as well. This entire thread is completely flooded with irrelevant comments that it made it hard to find the useful facts. However, the only diff was the rep over-scrutinized my system he gave crap about the hdmi cable, saw any tiny little scratches and marked it as "fair" instead of good but either way it still came to the same amount $130. My point is YMMV on the inspection depending on location and person doing it

For people with animal crossing and Pokémon saved data, what is the best method for doing this? My understanding is that you need both models at the same time to transfer this data.

you can do system transfer even if you do not have a switch 2 yet. I did this before i traded it in. Very similar to upgrading to a new phone

i ended up using this deal. Traded in 2 switch lites for $60 each and a switch 1 non oled for $75 and got one $75 coupon to use. Total for a switch 2 was $180. Not horrible, and i really had no use for the old switch 1's anymore. Now the family has 2 switch 2's.

I actually just did it today for animal crossing. I made sure the cloud backups in animal crossing were enabled and i had a recent save. Then I factory reset my old switch, traded it in, got a switch 2. Contacted nintendo support via chat said i dont have the old system anymore, and this new switch 2 is my replacement system. They took the serial number down.....did some things on the backend, then had me open the game and hold down the minus key just as the nintendo logo in the upper left faded away and the screen was black, and the new switch 2 asked me if i wanted to restore my animal crossing island...and it successfully found my cloud save and restored my island.

Will my digital games transfer to the switch 2 or are they locked to my existing console?

Counter-point: I bought an XBOX 360 Elite on clearance at Radio Shack an infinity ago and had it stored until last year so I could get back to Beautiful Katamari at will. I finally cracked it all open only after spending enough time with the PS2 that I'd largely held onto for the same amount of time for access to Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari with a little SSX Tricky mixed in. I did also grab some LEGO titles for both (those which were more easily/cheaply obtainable than physical versions for the Switch).

Good luck!
Jon

This is a solid deal. Trying to talk myself out of it because I only want a switch 2 for Donkey Kong Bonanza

Edit: was hoping I could take the switch 2 home, do a system transfer and then take the switch 1 back but read the switch 1 has to be traded in when you pick up the switch 2. Otherwise you won't get the promotional credit

I'm trying to do this on the website, and I don't see anything about this extra $75 back anywhere. Not on the product page, nor the trade in ones nor checkout.
