This trade in deal mainly turns a Switch OLED or original Switch into a cheaper Switch 2, with the strongest appeal being the high trade value and easy in store pickup when the promo is recognized. The Switch 2 adds 1080p, HDR, VRR, faster loads, and smoother gameplay, while still playing Switch 1 games. The main knocks are the LCD screen, which can look washed out or smeary next to OLED, and the shorter battery life. Trade in rules and store handling vary, so accessories, model selection, and promo application can affect the final total.

  • The trade-in promotion can work smoothly when the store applies the $75 bonus and $130 trade-in value correctly.

  • The deal can support quick in-store setup by letting digital games download again after signing into the same Nintendo account.

  • The Switch 2 upgrade can deliver smoother gameplay and faster loading times compared with Switch OLED.

  • The Switch 2 screen can look vibrant for high-contrast or dark games like Ori.

  • The $75 extra credit can be confusing or fail to apply for certain SKUs, including special editions like Splatoon OLED.

  • Switch 2 screen response times can be miserable, especially for people comparing against OLED displays.

  • Switch 2 visuals can look washed out, and some players report missing more game details than on Switch OLED.

  • Trade-in outcomes can drop if required accessories are missing, including controllers or the power cable.

I keep a Switch at home, mostly for family and friends during visits.dad Question: If I trade this for the SWITCH2, what happens to all my digital download games, do I lose them? thanks.
Digital download games you can re-download BUT..

You can only cloud backup your saved games files IF you have Nintendo Switch Online.

Typically you can transfer saved game data from Switch 1 to Switch 2 via the utility when you set up your new Switch 2.

Due to this being a trade-in deal you have to trade your OLD system before you get the NEW system. NSO is the only option of you don't physically possess both systems at the same time.

Switch 2 ONLY works specifically with MicroSD Express cards as well.

Anyone who traded in a OLED and got the 130$ and 75$ promotion. What was your total in the end with tax? Why does mine seem higher than I think it is.
It came to $269.37 for me. The cost of the switch went from $450 down to $375 after the $75 coupon. Tax on $375 in my county is $24.37 (6.5% sales tax). So $399.37 after tax. Then paid $130 with the gift card from my trade in and charged $269.37 to my credit card.

How many days do you get to complete the pickup + trade in? I know the default is 5 days but is there an extend option available?

Also, if ordering online there is some way to select that you are doing this offer and then it somehow refunds you the trade in and coupon values? This is still very confusing. If you don't get the coupon until after they receive it, then I doubt that allows for a refund.

On the Best Buy app, if you add the Switch 2 system to your cart, and then go to your cart, there should be an option at the bottom of your "Switch 2 system" item that says "trade in a device save on this device by trading in a similar one". Click that text and it should walk you through adding your trade-in Switch to the transaction. So now your cart will reflect the Switch 2 you want to buy and the Switch you're trading in with the promotion as one bundle.

You will still be charged the full price of the Switch 2 and the trade amount will be refunded. I did in store pickup and trade-in on Thursday and this morning the full Switch 2 charge posted ($481.89) as well as a refund of $210.00 from Best Buy. So I never got a coupon nor gift card.

Traded in my original switch 1 in person and got $150 total -- $75 BB Gift card and a print out they printed with a barcode they scanned during purchase of the Switch 2. Total after promo + tax in my area was $321. Definitely worth it!

Some tips - Be patient with the employees, have the promo up on your phone, and when needed gently remind them you're supposed to get a gift card and a one-time use coupon of $75 off.

Wanted to confirm the same thing. Especially since weekly ads usually start on Sundays.

My store was unable to get the bonus value to come up in their system so they had me buy online for store pickup and apply the trade in from the cart. Worked like a charm - they processed the trade-in at pickup and the full amount will get refunded. Also ended up with a mario steelbook bonus.

So does the tax get adjusted when doing online pick up? Or only when doing the deal in store? Seems when you do deal in store the 75 off coupon adjusts the tax, but when doing it online its full tax

ok, thanks. i guess I can't do it, anyway, though, since I have the day 1 switch. I assume I have to do it in store.

Best buy did not give me the $75 coupon as my Switch OLED was a special edition. Apparently it only works for regular switch and Switch OLED. Got to know only after the trade in. So be warned

I did the purchase online and went to the store to do the trade-in, which was smooth. They didn't really check but the girl at the register did ask about the power cord, which I already placed on the counter and they were both already on since I was making sure everything was backed up/system restored. Only things I traded were the consoles, power cords, and Joy-Cons (they didn't check if they were the ones that came with the consoles). I kept the white (OLED) and Skyward Sword Joy-Cons and gave up the cyan and gray ones that had drift (no C button or headset port). I did a quick search online, and it looks like the original Joy-Cons and Pro Controller will work with the Switch 2, but you'll need a separate charger. Good thing I did a last check since the micro SD card and Fire Emblem game were still there. Decided to get the case delivered since my location didn't have it in stock. I made sure the final price showed the $205 OLED discount (PayPal refunded the cost the same day). For those trying to do double trade-ins, you'll get the full discount only for one of the trade-ins. You can trade in the other, but it won't be included within the same transaction and it'll be normal trade-in price ($75 for the original). In the end, the manager already dealt with someone earlier, so she already looked it up online and was familiar with the process.

For prep, I signed up for the basic online plan and stored what I could in the cloud. If you chose to do the Expansion version, you can get upgraded versions for both Zelda games, but it's $49 a year and there's no trial version. I also chose the option to transfer to the Switch 2 with the option for not having it yet. Only micro SDs with EX work, but everything seemed to have transferred after signing into my account (accounts, games, and saves). Finally, even though the OLED looked better, we mainly keep it docked, so having magnetic Joy-Cons, increased storage, faster read/write speeds, updated WiFi/Bluetooth, 4K support (docked), 1080p (handheld), 120 fps, VRR, and HDR was a nice upgrade while still being able to play the original games.

Went super smooth. Did pick up at local store and traded in at same time. 150$ instantly refunded to credit card.
