Switch 1 games run on Switch 2. A lot of great games on Switch 2 at the moment. Fantastic time to buy.

This trade in deal mainly turns a Switch OLED or original Switch into a cheaper Switch 2, with the strongest appeal being the high trade value and easy in store pickup when the promo is recognized. The Switch 2 adds 1080p, HDR, VRR, faster loads, and smoother gameplay, while still playing Switch 1 games. The main knocks are the LCD screen, which can look washed out or smeary next to OLED, and the shorter battery life. Trade in rules and store handling vary, so accessories, model selection, and promo application can affect the final total.

You can only cloud backup your saved games files IF you have Nintendo Switch Online.
Typically you can transfer saved game data from Switch 1 to Switch 2 via the utility when you set up your new Switch 2.
Due to this being a trade-in deal you have to trade your OLD system before you get the NEW system. NSO is the only option of you don't physically possess both systems at the same time.
Switch 2 ONLY works specifically with MicroSD Express cards as well.
You will still be charged the full price of the Switch 2 and the trade amount will be refunded. I did in store pickup and trade-in on Thursday and this morning the full Switch 2 charge posted ($481.89) as well as a refund of $210.00 from Best Buy. So I never got a coupon nor gift card.

Some tips - Be patient with the employees, have the promo up on your phone, and when needed gently remind them you're supposed to get a gift card and a one-time use coupon of $75 off.

For prep, I signed up for the basic online plan and stored what I could in the cloud. If you chose to do the Expansion version, you can get upgraded versions for both Zelda games, but it's $49 a year and there's no trial version. I also chose the option to transfer to the Switch 2 with the option for not having it yet. Only micro SDs with EX work, but everything seemed to have transferred after signing into my account (accounts, games, and saves). Finally, even though the OLED looked better, we mainly keep it docked, so having magnetic Joy-Cons, increased storage, faster read/write speeds, updated WiFi/Bluetooth, 4K support (docked), 1080p (handheld), 120 fps, VRR, and HDR was a nice upgrade while still being able to play the original games.
