The Fairphone Gen 6+ stands out as a repairable, sustainability focused smartphone with expandable storage, a user replaceable battery, and inexpensive spare parts that make long term ownership easier. The modular design and five year warranty add to the appeal, especially for light everyday use, talk, text, and other non gaming tasks. The main knocks are the midrange Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, 4400 mAh battery, and several spec limits like USB 2.0, 4K video at 30 fps, and no telephoto lens. US compatibility is also a concern, especially missing Band 14 and possible carrier feature gaps, so it fits best if repairability matters more than flagship specs.

  • People who keep phones for years, because the removable battery and affordable parts make long-term ownership cheaper.

  • Repair-minded buyers who want to swap batteries and storage themselves, because the modular design supports quick part replacement.

  • Light phone users who mainly talk and text, because the moderate performance is enough and the phone is not aimed at intense gaming.

  • Owners who want a lower-waste phone, because replaceable batteries and parts reduce e-waste and extend device life.

  • Buyers expecting flagship hardware for the price, because the chipset, battery size, and overall specs are described as mid-range for $650.

  • Mobile gamers who want demanding Android performance, because the processor is only moderate and probably not suitable for intense gaming.

  • AT&T and AT&T-based MVNO customers, because the phone lacks Band 14 and RCS messaging support.

  • Video shooters who want higher-end camera features, because 4K recording is limited to 30 fps and there is no telephoto lens.

a no name mfg with barely mid level specs at $650. Laughable. Who's changing a phone battery regardless on how easy a few years down the road. By that time, most of us are shopping new.

Dang, I'd love to support something like this but I just bought the new Pixel 11 Pro XL with a bunch of discounts. I'm buying that mostly to have a phone that takes really good photos too.

Makes me miss my old LG G5 with the swappable batteries, SD card, and headphone port...
I still have my old LG G5, and I too loved it 10 years ago. But I got it out and booted it a couple weeks ago and was shocked to realize how much better 2026 devices are than 2016 devices. So repairable phones sound good, but we won't be keeping them for 25 years, as someone proposed.

Thumbs up for the fair parts design. But when you start getting into details - lots of limitations. Video recording at 4K is only 30hz, USB is 2.0, the third camera ring on the back isn't camera (no telephoto) etc…
wait for the next generation. Some of these will be improved. They have to set the bar somewhere that is achievable for them

Would not recommend for AT&T customers or those on an AT&T-based MVNO, since this phone won't support Band 14 (AT&T's primary nationwide long-range LTE band) or RCS messaging.
Good info, thx. How they built a $600 phone in 2026 that doesn't support at&t fully, I'll never understand.

Weak choice of SoC here for the asking price.

Exactly. $650 for SD7 is pretty meh. The phones used to be designed this way in the past but now, this is a "feature" we need to pay for

Quite the bargain $650.00 for a marked down $650.00 cellphone marked down from $650.00. Amazing. Still better off getting a new unlocked Motorola from M's site & putting a US Mobile sim card in it for $15.00 a month service using verizons towers.
Don't forget to check how long Motorola will provide security updates on that phone.

Take my upvote. I don't know how well their phones have been performing, how their firmware is, longevity, etc, but I seem to be hearing good things which isn't an easy thing to do. Will have to throw them in as a top contender for my next smartphone.

Now this is what I would like to see for the USA phone market. We need more competition and innovation!

This would make sense in a world where phones were crazy expensive. But nowdays I can daily drive a basically free mid-range phone like the Moto G Stylus 2025 (or even the 2024 model!) and it does everything I throw at it. Get one for free from Metro, pay the $55 for the 1st month, then keep paying for the service or just put it on the shelf for a year until it unlocks and use it with whoever you want. Rinse and repeat every 2-3 years. This was even easier a few years ago when phones would unlock faster, within a few months, before the carriers switched their strategies.

Maybe I'm just not the target demographic...I don't pay > $1,000 to upgrade to Samsung's flagship or an iPhone every two years. It boggles my mind how people enter into 24-month contracts to buy their $1,200 phone in installments AND overpay for the service. Murica...

Is this a deal or just a product announcement? I get people are excited about it coming to the US but this is a deals site right?
Based on the number of TU given, people seem to think it fits.

There have been plenty of times on SD that the availability of a product at retail price was worthy of a post. For example, during the gaming console shortage a few years ago, people would post about PS5 and Xbox at full price simply because they were available and it would hit the front page of SD every time.
