The Fairphone Gen 6+ stands out as a repairable, sustainability focused smartphone with expandable storage, a user replaceable battery, and inexpensive spare parts that make long term ownership easier. The modular design and five year warranty add to the appeal, especially for light everyday use, talk, text, and other non gaming tasks. The main knocks are the midrange Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, 4400 mAh battery, and several spec limits like USB 2.0, 4K video at 30 fps, and no telephoto lens. US compatibility is also a concern, especially missing Band 14 and possible carrier feature gaps, so it fits best if repairability matters more than flagship specs.

Common Questions (5)

  • The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 4400mAh battery are viewed as mid-range for the price, with several comments calling the hardware weak or "pretty meh" at $650. The value case is mainly repairability and long-term ownership, not flagship performance.

  • AT&T customers and AT&T-based MVNO users should avoid it because Band 14 is not supported, and RCS messaging also won't work. T-Mobile Wi‑Fi calling is uncertain, and one shopper specifically asked whether all T-Mobile bands are included.

  • The phone is designed for user-replaceable parts, including the battery, display, cameras, USB-C port, back covers, SIM tray, and top unit. Replacement parts are priced individually, with examples like a $39.95 battery, $89.95 display, and $19.95 USB-C port.

  • It is described as a moderately powered phone that is probably not suitable for intense Android gaming. It fits better for talk, text, and other everyday use than for flagship-level performance.

  • Yes. The back camera setup includes a non-telephoto third ring, 4K video is limited to 30 fps, and one comment says camera quality is not a strength overall even though the front camera is decent.

7s Gen 4 is essentially a thermally efficient Snap 888 in terms of power and performance. That doesn't throttle. Not a bad CPU, but nowhere near modern flagships, either.

The repairability concept is great, but the hardware is something to keep in mind if you want to use the primary function of it - long term repairability. By 2030, an 888 style CPU may be pretty outdated.

Profit means we must destroy the world, that's why repairability is dead. Products can be made to last 25 years with easy repairability, instead we have planned obsolescence.
And us having to take companies to court for right to repair laws!
Planned obsolescence, combined with the fact that it's getting more and more difficult to repair your own stuff.

Yeah! I love removable batteries and storage - it reduces e-waste, saves the environment. Bonus, user replaceable spare parts. Even though there isn't processing parity [yet] at the price point, it'll be worth it in the long run if you keep phones longer than 2 years.

People do not come to this site to get advertised to at retail. They come here for deals. Anyone who actually wants this phone already knows about its availability.
I have never heard of this phone, so this whole thread has educated me on some basics of the phone.
Not having a band 14 is a deal breaker for me. As well as the price.
While actually not a SD, it has been informative.

I love the idea of this phone but it needs better US frequency band support, and I'd really like to see a telephoto camera module for it as well. Hopefully future versions will be more tempting.

Thumbs up for the fair parts design. But when you start getting into details - lots of limitations. Video recording at 4K is only 30hz, USB is 2.0, the third camera ring on the back isn't camera (no telephoto) etc…
What is that third spot for?

nvm, 3d depth sensor

This is a great sign of possible things to come... Imagine being able to expand storage and replacing battery with a spare. A refreshing time to be alive😊

Only if people actually buy this phone
