The Fairphone Gen 6+ stands out as a repairable, sustainability focused smartphone with expandable storage, a user replaceable battery, and inexpensive spare parts that make long term ownership easier. The modular design and five year warranty add to the appeal, especially for light everyday use, talk, text, and other non gaming tasks. The main knocks are the midrange Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, 4400 mAh battery, and several spec limits like USB 2.0, 4K video at 30 fps, and no telephoto lens. US compatibility is also a concern, especially missing Band 14 and possible carrier feature gaps, so it fits best if repairability matters more than flagship specs.

  • User-replaceable parts can keep the phone usable by swapping components like the battery over time.

  • Removable battery and expandable storage can support longer ownership and reduce e-waste.

  • Affordable replacement-part pricing can reduce the cost of repairing common modules like the display and cameras.

  • The phone can fit everyday talk and text needs without targeting intense Android gaming performance.

  • The hardware specs can feel limited for the $650 price, including 4K recording at only 30fps and USB 2.0.

  • AT&T and AT&T-based MVNO users may be blocked by missing Band 14 support and RCS messaging.

  • The $7 shipping charge can make the overall deal not worth it for some shoppers.

  • Warranty confidence can be uncertain because a smaller brand's 5-year warranty may not feel trustworthy.

7s Gen 4 and 4400mAh battery? At this price? No thanks. I'll be buying into this farce when it's cheaper.
Word. If a Motorola phone with these spec get posted here for $200 Slickdeals elite will downvote it into oblivion. The truth is you can buy 3 Motorola phones in 10 years and still spend less than this.

Makes me miss my old LG G5 with the swappable batteries, SD card, and headphone port...
The good ole days... But seriously, I'd always buy a 2nd battery and they were think so it fit in a pocket while I was out. When my phone started dying i could just do a quick battery swap for a fully changed phone again.

Thumbs up for the fair parts design. But when you start getting into details - lots of limitations. Video recording at 4K is only 30hz, USB is 2.0, the third camera ring on the back isn't camera (no telephoto) etc…
Gotta start somewhere I guess. There are a lot of people this would work great for like my parents who don't need the latest and greatest since they'll never use it. Hopefully future replacement parts means upgrading those parts.

I only heard about this phone this week from Engadget. Really hopeful to see this sorta thing moving into the more mainstream which I think slickdeals will help.

never heard of this brand. whats the advantages compared to let's say a refurbished 16 at the same price?
Sustainability and ability to self repair. Hopefully upgradable parts some day and not just replacement parts.

With phones now having 5 years of OS support (Pixel, iPhones, Samsung), the battery is the main component that degrades quickly before the OS support ends. Great that we can change the battery for $39. This will save me some money, but spending $650 for a mid-range phone. I do like the concept, and I hope the competition brings similar designs.

Does this have all the bands for T-Mobile or is it missing any?
I'd be comparing this to the pixel 10a. In 7 years I could pay $100 to have a new battery put in the pixel at a repair shop for the Pixel.

Anyone remember the "Essential" phones in the mid 2010s. Not sure I trust a 5 year warranty for a smaller brand. Very cool concept but not sure about this one...
They aren't a "new" brand at least. They have been in business in Europe for 13 years, so certainly evidence they will PROBABLY be around in 5 years especially as they are expanding, which is the opposite of what "soon to go bankrupt" companies are usually doing in this size range.

any word if this can run Graphene?
It cannot unfortunately. Graphene IS coming to Motorolla next year it seems, which is going to be interesting. It CAN run quite a few OS options include eOS which is a decent substitute for graphene but definitely not as good.

That isn't how brand new products released into a market where they have never existed works. There are multiple people in this thread just discovering this that are interested.

If it's not for you, cool, but man you are spending a lot of energy over a single random post about a product that is a social good to some degree. Use that energy for all the atrocious staff "deals" for random garbage lingerie lol.

I dig the idea of being to replace things as needed easily but how would I go to this from a S25 Ultra??!

Would not recommend for AT&T customers or those on an AT&T-based MVNO, since this phone won't support Band 14 (AT&T's primary nationwide long-range LTE band) or RCS messaging.
That BAND is only available to "first net" customers, not all the AT&T customer's. So it would not matter much for regular customers.

e/OS/ is not the best OS I had problems, and I'm just gonna leave it at that.
I also have trouble with using AT&T, it works, it's just not the best.

The hardware is nice, but the quality you get is subpar at best. Subpar audio in all sections. Voice, speaker. If you care about camera quality this isn't it. The front camera is decent for what it is though. I could go on and on. I still have this phone they have a lot of kinks to solve, but I ended up getting a Pixel 10a and putting gOS on it and I never looked back.

I went all on the FP6 I even went ahead and gotten the Murena phone plan. The price was great, but it was a disaster to get with support. If you get this phone and you're okay with dealing with little hiccups here and there and hope they get fixed in the future then. Sure, take the plunge, but GrapheneOS (gOS) on a Pixel is miles better. I'm also looking forward to Motorola & GrapheneOS partnership.
