LG's 27 inch Ultragear OLED stands out as a fast 1440p gaming monitor with excellent color, inky blacks, and a sturdy stand. The subtle anti glare coating and customizable ambient lighting add polish, and the panel can feel like a major upgrade for gaming. Setup may take some tuning, and the burn in protection leaves a larger edge gap. LG's software can also auto install on Windows, and VRR flicker can show up when frame rates fluctuate, so it suits players who value OLED image quality and speed over perfect simplicity.

  • The monitor delivers inky blacks and colors that pop for gaming visuals.

  • The stand supports swivel/pivot adjustments for switching between FPS and ultrawide MMO setups.

  • LG software can be uninstalled or disabled, and startup launching can be prevented.

  • The anti-glare coating stays subtle while still helping reduce glare during use.

  • OLED burn-in risk can be noticeable on open-box units, so burn-in checks matter.

  • VRR flicker can appear when in-game framerates fluctuate, causing visible flickering.

  • The 480Hz refresh rate may offer limited practical benefit for many players compared with lower refresh rates.

  • The anti-burn-in mitigation can leave a larger edge gap around the screen.

4k 32" OLED MSI (Factory Refurbished) at Woot right now. Makes this deal kind of a non-starter. 1440p is a huge step down.

I have this exact monitor. can confirm it's amazing. of you're worried about LG software invasion, it will auto install but just uninstall it or disable it. I've done the later and set it so it doesn't launch on start up. Microsoft may reinstall the app since it thinks it's necessary for the display to work properly but you can always keep an eye on it.

this is not equivalent in terms of refresh rate. so if fps gaming is your thing and you prioritize that I would go with this one.

I have an RTX 5080 pc and currently play at 144hz. I'll be honest that my eyes literally can't tell the difference between 120/144/240/360hz. Is there a practical use/need for 480hz?
Bro it's a huge difference. There's a big difference to me when i play on 240 vs 360 vs 480.. definitely 144 and 480.. but thats just me

Does this monitor have those weird triangular pixels?
No, you're thinking of QD-OLED panels. LG doesn't use those since QD-OLED is a Samsung thing. LG makes/uses WOLED and now more recently Tandem OLED.

TL;DR, no triangle pixel pattern panel (alliteration!) on this or any LG OLED monitor.

Yes, I bought the 4k version of this monitor and after using it for about two weeks, I started getting Windows notifications for McAfee.
Gamers Nexus did a whole video on this.

I totally forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder. Anyone who does not know about this needs to do a web search before buying anything LG. It is not a small thing.

Is 480hz is fast enough that I can turn off VRR to avoid the flicker issue entirely and still not see screen tearing?
nope, because your actual frame rate in game won't be anywhere close to 480fps. keep the gsync/freesync on as you should...something's wrong if you're seeing "flicker"

do you play fastpace fps? if no, then this is completely pointless, all you really need for everyday gaming is 120hz --- that's the optimal refresh rate for pretty much everything ---- 4x the standard retro gaming refresh rate of 30fps, 2x the standard tv program's refresh rate of 60fps, 5x the standard movie's refresh rate of 24fps, and 3x the optional 40fps offered by alot of modern games on consoles, and of course, 120hz for pc games to give you that buttery smooth feel

I just picked this up over the weekend and set it up last night. I plan to use it specifically for FPS, then turn it off to swivel to my 34" ultrawide for my MMOs.

VRR flicker is basically the current biggest downside to OLED gaming. If framerates are fluctuating, OLEDs are flickering.
