Now I will consider my next options:
1. Stay with Metro for 3 months to get $100 gift card. Essentially paying $100 for two months of service with $100 back on a GC.
2. Just trade it in to Apple ASAP along with my current ip13 for a new unlocked 17e....then get whatever $15-20/service has hotspot included while I wait on black friday deals
3. Just use it the month I paid for it and then stick it in a drawer. in 11 more months i'd have an unlocked iphone as a backup that I would have essentially paid $138 - $20 (value of first month service that i currently need...may be useless to some not needing service right now) = $118
$190 + 35 x 10 = $540 Total ($190 for the phone and $350 for the service based off switching to the $35 plan after the first 3 months).
I was able to grab one from Best Buy unlocked for only $465 out the door.
Darn just saw this....would've made the deal even better than metro. i called and they said around $125 out the door. might do the line for my mom at cricket.

i just called a local authorized cricket retailer after he said that....they said $125 total for the phone/activation/first month service.
Just checked apple's website and trade-in value is $310...can someone confirm that Apple will accept locked phones?
i turned in a bunch of locked metro phones about 1.5-2 years ago
Still have about 2 months on another prepaid plan
