Your RTX 5090 Deal Lover is back with another post!
Simply go here https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp...91wjaa-aba- There are no coupon to use for this one but it's actually GREAT DEAL and you cannot customize it.
- There is a labor day specific coupon for GAMERS25 but it does not apply here and not necessary because this price is 35% OFF $7000 MSP!
- Don't forget to stack your CC stuff.
Don't have EPP? It's still a GREAT DEAL for today and the situation we are in.
Compared to the previous Ultra 265K deal these are the following differences for $4560! Fantastic upgrade price if you look at the comparison and if you needed the extra config.
- Windows 11 Pro
- Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 processor 285K (instead of 265K)
- 64 GB memory (instead of 16GB)
- 2 TB SSD storage ( instead of 16GB)
Of course, you still get this - NVIDIA GeForce RTXâ„¢ 5090 GPU
Just note these differences between AMD and Intel variants but keep in mind that AMD Variants this time has no extra discount nor is Ultra 265K config worth it right now. So hop to it if you wanted Ultra 285 for extra productivity workloads and if you needed 64GB and more storage anyway!
Why I like AMD over Intel (Core Ultra 7 265K) on this HP Platform?- Front I/O & Headers: Includes a functional front-panel USB-C port and a dedicated motherboard USB-C header.
- Power Efficiency: Operates at a conservative 65W CPU base power target vs. the 125W power draw on Intel.
- X3D Option for true Gaming edge: If you are a gaming, this is a no brainer to get 9800X3D
- Full Modular 1200W PSU: The Ultra 265K I got had non-modular design and only 12v6 adapter, not the old style 8-pin at all!
- Refreshed Case Design: Uses HP's updated chassis revision with subtle, cleaner front-panel aesthetics.

This OMEN 45L is mainly a 5090 value play, with 64GB RAM, a 2TB SSD, and Windows Pro making it stronger for productivity and parts value than for a clean out of box gaming build. The RTX 5090 is the star, and the OEM card is described as mostly metal and comparable to other 5090s. The Intel version is the normal OMEN 45L, not the MAX model, and the RAM is 4x16. Caveats include HP's locked down BIOS, a non modular Intel PSU, and recurring cooling complaints that can require airflow or cooler changes.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, the advertised $4560 price appears to require EPP; without it, the checkout price can jump to $4799. EDU can work at the same price on some accounts, but it is not stackable with EPP.
The Intel variant is reported to ship with a non-modular PSU and only the 12VHPWR/12HPW connection, while the AMD variant is modular and includes 12VHPWR plus 8-pin cables and extra SATA leads. That matters if you plan to reuse parts or swap in an older GPU, which may need a splitter or adapter.
The RTX 5090 is reported to work in other PCs and is not BIOS-locked, so it can be reused if you shuck the system. The main resale caveat is that the GPU may be tied to the shipped PC for warranty purposes, and the motherboard/case are the least desirable parts to keep.
The system uses 4x16GB RAM, not 2x32GB. XMP may need to be enabled in BIOS to reach the rated 5600MHz, and the HP motherboard is described as fairly locked down beyond that.
This is the normal OMEN 45L, not the OMEN MAX 45L. That matters if you plan to keep the PC, since the normal 45L is the one associated with the older negative review and the shucking discussion.

Might get some coin for the RAM though.
I seriously hope none of you guys actually do this.
I then replaced the cooler with a simple low-cost twin tower twin fan air cooler. That solved the issue of the CPU cores throttling at 105°, that no longer happens with the large air cooler.
I also removed the front glass panel that basically entombed the system and didn't allow much air flow, the front of it is now open, fans exposed and only covered by a dust filter, and the temps within have dropped a few degrees Celsius. The BIOS has very few options as far as tweaking and configurability, beyond setting the XMP profile which was not set out of the box and setting the PC to its maximum performance profile.
Now it runs perfectly fine but looks terrible. If I were buying this as a gaming PC and aesthetics meant anything, I certainly wouldn't buy it nor would I recommend it, although at a deep discount it may be worth it. Especially given the current pricing of RTX 5090s which in the case of the Omen 45 L, is the absolute star of the show. Somebody here in this message thread suggested that the HP Omen 45 L's RTX 5090 is locked at the BIOS level. That's utter nonsense, The Omen 5090 will run in any PC than any other 5090 model will run in.
The 5090 in The Omen won't win any beauty contests compared to some of the other models available, nothing really to see as far as RGB, but the build construction is excellent, mostly metal, and performance-wise it compares favorably against other RTX 5090 models. if somebody does buy one of these to "shuck" as many people do, I would suggest they repurpose every component except for the motherboard and case which IMO are hot garbage. As far as the CPU Cooler is concerned, I quickly chose the quickest route to solve the throttling problem by removing the AIO within the cryo chamber and instead installing a twin tower Thermalright air cooler with two 120mm fans that I had laying around. Doing that swap worked so well, that I just left it alone after that.
Worthwhile if bought at a deal like this, definitely worth it if you take the sum of all its parts, you certainly couldn't replicate it for this amount of money. Wishing you all the best on your Omen guide and hopefully you can help others get the most out of their HP 45 L systems, they aren't really so bad once you get the temps correct and the memory profile running as it should.
I went as far as recommending this to a deal to a close friend today who bought one after I sent him the Slickdeals link. He works from home and his employer just green lighted him buying an RTX 5090 or 5090 rig with a 5k budget. He's been shopping around for a few days and is shocked at the lack of 5090s available all in for 5K or less after tax. This should serve his purposes well. Good for him and good for Jensen. And the guy or girl who's going to end up buying his existing RTX 3090 for way less money than it's worth? Well good for him or her too... I guess.
Funny about the front-plastic/glass, it looks nice but the airflow coming from the side intake is less affective, could have been a mesh in front.
With all these changes, someone may just shuck it into a better case haha. Re-use everything except the case itself. $75 is all you need to get a good Lian Li case.
I want to try one of those 180mm front-fan cases next for a new dual GPU build but even the non-GPU parts will be too expensive already so I will probably not do it.

Specs are the same, model does ends with gt22-3090 here instead of 3000t in the GN tests.
Maybe just some weird sku thing. But yah people shouldn't buy this if they are not comfortable.
I did document the Intel variant has older case and missing a couple of things vs AMD variant. Could be why I always see GT23 model prefix for AMD variant but I need to double check though.
I only ordered 4 for now due to abundance of caution of course
